Snapchat used to be a platform to send 10 second pictures of your dumb face to your dumb friend. It was like texting but it was a picture, which made it funny to constantly keep in touch with your closest friends. Snapchat was created in September in 2011 and we have really seen this app grow from a silly idea to have it become one of the most prominent social media applications. But with the new found fame, Snapchat has gotten extremely cocky.
They just updated the app and everyone is extremely pissed off. Snapchat now seems to be a platform of advertising rather than just a simple funny picture app. There is now online magazines on the front page where you can view sites like DailyMail, Buzzfeed and news sources. I know this app needs to make money, but could they do it in a way where they don’t seem like such obvious sell outs?
Although this is weird, at least people could still use the app. But after the new update happened, users are more than displeased. I did not update the app because I do not play with that kind of stuff, but sources say that they have complicated everything by mashing your contacts’ stories and messages into a single randomized list.
This is what it looks like now:

Who created this idea???
There is actually a petition to change the update and over ONE MILLION PEOPLE HAVE SIGNED IT. That is a lot of public backlash over this updated, and it’s rightly deserved.
Kylie Jennfer also had something to say:
sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me… ugh this is so sad.

The company put out a sad statement that almost makes me feel bad for them.
They said,
“To Nic and all of the Snapchatters who signed this petition,
We hear you, and appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel. We completely understand the new Snapchat has felt uncomfortable for many.
By putting everything from your friends in one place, our goal was to make it easier to connect with the people you care about most. The new Friends page will adapt to you and get smarter over time, reflecting who you’re most likely to be Snapping with at that moment. This same personalization is also true of the new Discover, which will adapt to you the more that you use it.
Beginning soon on iOS, and with Android in the coming weeks, we are introducing tabs in Friends and Discover, which will make it easier to find the Stories that you want, when you want them. Once you receive the update, you’ll be able to sort things like Stories, Group Chats, and Subscriptions, allowing you to further customize your own experience on the app.
This new foundation is just the beginning, and we will always listen closely to find new ways to make the service better for everyone. We are grateful for your enthusiasm and creativity. We are very excited for what’s ahead.
Love, Team Snapchat”
Oh Snapchat, we’ll take you back but first you just have to change everything back. I feel like companies are too centered on creating the next revolutionary design, that they lose sight of the factors that made the company big in the first place.
