via New York Times — Conor McGregor, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s biggest star and one of the world’s highest-paid athletes, is under investigation in Ireland after a woman accused him of sexual assault in December, according to four people familiar with the investigation.
McGregor has not been charged with a crime. Following the usual protocol in criminal investigations in Ireland and much of Europe, where a formal charge does not necessarily follow an arrest, McGregor was arrested in January, questioned by law enforcement authorities and released pending further investigation, according to the people.

Conor McGregor has been all around the news over the past week, and especially over the last 24 hours. After making an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night and talking about his interest in fighting again, he tweeted out a retirement post, hours after his segment aired.
McGregor now finds himself in hot water with the law again, this time being accused of sexual assault. The New York Times is reporting that McGregor was arrested in January and released pending further investigation. McGregor is currently not guilty of any crime, just accused, but the claim is still being handled by Irish authorities.
The woman is accusing McGregor of sexual assault at the Beacon Hotel, an establishment located in Dublin. McGregor was last at the hotel back in December. The police in charge of investigating the case have recovered evidence from the room McGregor was a guest in and received closed circuit footage from the hotel.
The UFC star is no stranger to run-ins with the law, with his latest arrest happening just two weeks ago in Miami, when he was taken in for smashing a mans cell phone. This current accusation could be damning to the reputation and career of McGregor if found guilty.
