Tyler the Creator has just dropped his most recent album Igor. There are a bunch of features on the album including Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, Al Green, Playboi Carti, and Charlie Wilson. It has 12 tracks an appropriately starts with “Igor’s Theme”.

Tyler had a few words of advice for people to shape their expectations and listening habits. When Igor was released, Tyler tweeted a photo with these words: “Igor. This is not Bastard. This is not Goblin. This is not Wolf. This is not Cherry Bomb. This is not Flower Boy. This is Igor. Don’t go into this expecting a rap album. Don’t go into this expecting any album.” He’s right; this album is very different than previous albums. Much of it’s focus is on sonic texture and instrumental melodies, and Tyler doesn’t even rap until halfway through the third song. The piano is featured heavily on this album, often being the centerpiece of multiple songs on this album.

Later on in the same note, Tyler writes: ““Front to back. No distractions either. No checking your phone no watching tv no holding convo, full attn. towards the sounds where you can form your own opinions and feelings towards the album. Some go on walks, some drive, some lay in bed and sponge it all up. Whatever it is you choose, fully indulge. With volume.” You need to fully focus to truly enjoy this album. The beauty is in the details. Personally, my ideal mode of listening is the car, as the constant drone and direction of the drive usually amplifies my listening experience. I took the car out for a spin last night after this album dropped, and drove on some back-roads to absorb it.
