According to CNN, famous drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has been sentenced life in prison +30 years and was ordered to pay $12 billion.

During the trial, El Chapo spoke for only 10 minutes before the sentence was decided by the jury and the charges handed out. “There is no justice here,” the drug lord said in Spanish in reference to the trial.

El Chapo was convicted on all 10 counts he was charged of, which included drug trafficking, firearms charges, and engaging in continual enterprise, which automatically terms life in prison. Prosecutors called him a “ruthless and bloodthirsty” leader of the Sinaloa cartel.

After previously serving two years of isolation, El Chapo will serve his sentence in the nation’s most secure federal prison in Florence, Colorado. This is impart because of the two previous times that Guzman has escaped prison. “He’s going to Supermax, I’m sure, in Colorado,” defense attorney Jeffrey Lichtman told CNN’s “New Day” the day after Guzman was convicted. “No one has ever escaped. It’s absolutely impossible. It’s not even an issue.”

El Chapo was one of the most notorious criminals in the world and given his past history of escapes, it is reassuring to see him put in an inescapable prison.
