It’s been almost 5 years since the super indie label that is Top Dawg Entertainment released one of their most notable projects to date. Isaiah Rashad’s “The Sun’s Tirade”, the debut studio album from the Chattanooga born MC. Fusing 70’s soul & jazz with trippy and trap hip hop production, Isaiah creates a concept album displaying his battles with addiction and depression on a larger canvas. The album went on to receive critical acclaim, earning the 17th spot on the US Billboard 200 chart and several end-of-the-year “Best Of” lists. Supported by features from his label mates, Kendrick Lamar, Zacari, SiR & SZA, it was clear Isaiah Rashad was going to be here for a while. But then…he disappeared.

Isaiah Rashad’s “The Sun’s Tirade” was released September 2nd, 2016.

Dealing with the struggles of xanax and alcohol addiction, Rashad decided he need to step away from the bright lights displaying his name. The results lead to him checking into a rehab in Orange County, California, Isaiah spent 30 days detoxing and giving himself back to a higher power before returning home. According to THE FADER, Isaiah stated “I was doing whatever I could do to escape.” He lost everything, he was stuck in the mud (first album reference for those who know) and it was all because he was trying to escape his thoughts.

But when you fast forward to January 2021, Rashad steps back into the spotlight with simple picture. Him & Quality Control rapper Duke Deuce featuring a caption stating, “up to no good again lol.” Beginning the speculation that a new album was in the works and the two may be collaborating.

Moving months ahead to May 7th, Isaiah releases his first single in 4 years “Lay Wit Ya” ft. Duke Deuce confirming that the two did having something in the works, while also revealing his forthcoming album “The House Is Burning” will be set to release July 30th causing a social media frenzy showing that the Black Hippy has return.
