[Sports] Manny Machado Signs Deal with Padres
Manny Machado has agreed to sign with the San Diego Padres to a record-breaking 10 years worth $300 million according to MLB.com Executive Reporter, Mark Feinsand.
After a long free agency where it looked like there would be no end in sight, Machado has come to terms with what will be the biggest free agent contract in the history of professional sports. The San Diego Padres add one of the top-flight free agents of the winter to their loaded prospect pool as they look to compete for the NL West crown this coming season. The contract details include a fifth year opt-out clause that Machado can exercise.
Machado’s market took a while to materialize after there were some questions about his work ethic and hustle during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Machado is the first big domino to fall during this free agency period, now players like Bryce Harper and Dallas Keuchel should be soon to sign. Spring Training is already here and teams that are in similar situations like the Padres should look to capitalize on landing top talent.
