DO YOU MISS AMY WINEHOUSE? LISTEN TO THIS UNRELEASED DEMO

The music world mourns Amy Winehouse. Since her death in 2011, fans have been upset that we will never hear new music from her again. She was one of my favorite artists and I usually spend a lot of my time listening to her old music. When demos get resurfaced it is always a great surprise that reminds us of the influence she had.

The demo “My Own Way” was reportedly recorded in composer and musician Gil Cang’s studio in 2001.

In 2015, it was announced that at least 14 unreleased demos were destroyed when she died. They decided not to release it because Winehouse couldn’t sign off on it.

David Joseph, then chairman/CEO of Universal Music U.K decided on February 25th, 2018 to finally release a demo for her fans and with or without her consent.

He stated,

“I’ve had it knocking about for so long. I found it again last week and thought – I’ll put it out there so people could hear it.”

Listen to it here:

I think the highlight of this song is the opening as she sings:

“I’ve never been in love before, such a foolish thing to me, seems to me the price is high, so I’ll keep my own company, and I’ll do what I want when I feel.”

Then the track breaks out into the chorus for the most of the song. It is a chill track that you should listen to with candles lit. Even though Winehouse didn’t sign off on the release, I feel like she would be proud of it.

Rest in Peace Amy Winehouse.
Your music has left its mark on this world.

WHAT CAN’T RIHANNA DO?

The “Work” singer just dropped a new sock collection earlier this month! In honor of Valentine’s Day, she collaborated with Stance Muse to create the Cold Heated collection.

Check out her Instagram post here:

The socks are embellished with jewels and are available in grey, tan or red. They are named “Pimp Claus,” “Heaux Heaux,” and “Deez Chesnuts.” They are priced at 125 dollars, which is pretty expensive. I love the names of the socks but that is not going to overshadow the price of them. I have no idea who would go out of their way to buy such pricey items unless they were her friends. Also, I don’t see the appeal in them. Who is going to wear those when they seem rather uncomfortable? It is mind-blowing how much clothing and makeup lines that celebrities can put out. For example, Kanye West has sold tee-shirts with holes in them for an unbelievable amount of money. These socks will probably do well, but only because they have Rihanna’s name attached to them. Since she is an icon in fashion right now, people might be swayed to go along with this trend but it is going to die out fast. I can imagine someone going to the club wearing these uncomfortable socks and leaving with all of the jewels on the dance floor.

You can buy the socks here if you have the money to blow.

[NEW VIDEO] PORTER ROBINSON “VIRTUAL SELF”

Porter Robinson has been claimed to be, “EDM’s sensitive boy genius.” He has been at the forefront of the world of dance music by putting a twist on traditional EDM.  Short after his debut, he made appearances in top-billed slots on festivals including Coachella, Tomorrowland, Creamfields and Lollapalooza.

He is best known for his song, “Sad Machine.”

Do yourself a favor and listen to it here:

Robinson has claimed to have a bit of writer’s block, so to inspire him again he began working on a project called “virtual self.” The Virtual Self EP dropped in November 2017 and drew inspiration from the ’90s and early 2000s trance. His vision was “rave nostalgia — one that’s viewed through the virtual lens of the internet and video game.”

He states:

“Virtual Self was me trying to paint a picture of a very foggy, distorted memory that I had of electronic music on the internet. That blurry memory is really mysterious, and that’s what I liked about it.”

He just released the video on February 28th, entitled, “Virtual Self – Ghost Voices.”

You can view it here:

Upon first viewing, it is incredible that Porter Robinson was able to create this as a result of a creative block. It really does take you into a different reality where one feels like they are back in a chat room. The vision is perfectly executed and draws up feelings of being otherworldly. Porter Robinson is always taking EMD and putting another spin on it and I think this is really different from what he has done in the past, but it also works so well. He has expanded his taste and being one of the top dance music inventors right now, he is bound to influence other artists. I can’t wait to see more of his vision in the future.

JENNIFER LAWRENCE IS NO LONGER AFRAID OF NUDITY

Jennifer Lawrence is not shy about her body, but when her nudes leaked in 2014 she was pretty upset about it all. Her private photos were posted all over the internet and it pained her to see herself exposed in the hands of millions.

It really took her a lot to take on parts where she exposed herself due to this incident, but she is learning to move on from the experience.

You can watch her full 60-minute interview here where she talks about her experience.

She has evolved and took a role in the Francis Lawrence-directed spy flick Red Sparrow, which contains top off nudity. A few years ago she was modified by her nudes being released to the public but this role empowered her to be more comfortable with nudity in her work.

She stated,

“I realized there’s a difference between consent and not. I showed up for the first day and I did it and I felt empowered. I feel like something that was taken from me, I got back. … It’s my body, it’s my art, and it’s my choice. And if you don’t like boobs, you should not go see Red Sparrow.”

I can’t wait to see Red Sparrow and I am so happy for Jennifer Lawrence taking control of the situation and showing people that she is no longer embarrassed. It’s her body and it’s beautiful, so why not show it off?

[MY TOP PICKS] THE BEST BLINK 182 SONGS

Blink 182 is one of the leading and most prominent bands in punk. They continued the unexpected 1990s journey of pop-punk into the mainstream. Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker make up the multi-faceted band. The trio is from Southern California and took their skater punk style and turned it into one of the greatest bands of all time. They were also not afraid to branch out with their sound, putting out countless experimental albums that worked in their favor. They are not afraid to evolve and their fans support it. Despite this, some albums have been claimed to be not on the level of their hit releases like their 2001 release, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and their 2003 release of their self-titled album, Blink-182. Also, who could forget their 1999 release, Enema Of The State.

Remember this cover art?

After this release, they waited a while and released Neighborhoods in 2011 which was either loved or extremely hated. Fans also have their own thoughts about the 2016 release of California since people waited five years for a sound that was more pop based. But I think we can all agree that the deluxe edition of California was just plain bad.

But through all their different sounds, releases and experimental music videos they have had some of the greatest punk hits in the genre.

Here is my list of the greatest Blink 182 songs:

Josie:

Dumpweed:

What’s My Age Again? (obviously)

Anthem:

Anthem Part 2:

Don’t Leave Me:

Adam’s Song:

(I think I listed every other song on Enema Of The State, it’s just that good)

First Date:

This song brings me back to when I was 17 and going on a lot of dates. This is truly a classic song.

Online Songs:

Happy Holidays, You Bastard:

I think is the best joke song that Blink has ever done.

Feeling This:

Try not to scream along to this song.

Stockholm Syndrome:

This song truly kicks ass.

I’m Lost Without You:

Ghost on the Dance Floor:

I personally feel that Neighborhoods were their best most eclectic album. Many fans disagree though.

Wishing Well:

This song is truly a jam. One of my favorite Blink songs.

Kaleidoscope:

Even if She Falls In Love:

This song is truly my favorite song this band has ever put out. Even if you aren’t a fan of Blink 182, you will probably love this song.

Pretty Little Girl:

Most people don’t know this song since it was released on an EP.

Dogs Eating Dogs:

She’s Out of Her Mind:

San Diego:

I am in love with the bridge on this song.

So here’s my list! It might be long but they have been around since the 90s and continue to put out albums that top the other ones. I really hope they don’t break up anytime soon because they are too important to fade away. Although California was more pop, it was still a good album that combined a new sound with some of their best assets.
