GREATEST SNL PERFORMANCES OF ALL TIME

Saturday Night Live has been the home of many great performances. Some of the most popular artists in the music industry get to share the stage with brilliant comedians and actors. Even though SNL might not have the same charm that it did a few years ago, one cannot forget the legacy this show left on the world.

Here are the best performances that the SNL stage has hosted:

Kanye West, “Black Skinhead” (May 18, 2013):

In this performance, Kanye gives it his all combining rap with a gothic style. Off of his Yeezus album, he shows us why is one of the greatest rappers in the game.

Sia, “Elastic Heart” (January 17, 2015):

Sia had an amazing performance which brought her music video to the stage. She nailed it and made the audience truly become entranced with her vision for this song.

Arcade Fire (2007):

Arcade Fire sets the bar for indie rock performers, and just look how he smashes that guitar! True artistry.

Nirvana (1992):

One of the greatest bands of all time is sure to make the stage their bitch.

Miley Cyrus, “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” (February 15, 2015):

This performance showed that Miley Cyrus was extremely versatile and she wasn’t just her “Wrecking Ball” image. She has a great vocal range and showed it off. She is going to go down in history books.

Prince, Epic Jam Session, (November 1, 2014):

Prince is a legend and this performance is legendary

Frank Ocean, “Pyramids” (September 15, 2012):

Frank Ocean is not afraid to get vulnerable on stage and he shares a close moment here with us.

R.E.M., “Shiny Happy People” (April 13, 1991):

At a time of great loss for America, R.E.M. managed to produce a happy song that made everyone forget about their troubles. The performance was a fun one.

Elvis Costello (1977):

Elvis Costello sent a huge “screw you” to his record company by performing a single that they didn’t want him to play. This act of rebellion truly sent him to the top of the list.

What are your favorite performances? Do you agree with my list?

[GET READY FOR A COMEBACK] KEVIN GATES IS OUT OF JAIL

Kevin Gates was just released from Prison after serving 9 months for felony gun possession. In April 2017 he was sentenced and he now is under “mandatory supervision” and cannot possess any firearms.

He posted this on Instagram to show his fans he was back:

It seems like he was certainly doing a lot of brainstorming during his time in prison. He recently announced his first live shows on February 6th, 2018.

The “Two Phones” rapper will be performing at JMBLYA’s shows in Dallas, Austin, and Houston from May 4-6 alongside Migos, Cardi B and others. He also will be performing in Lansing, Michigan on July 8th at the Common Ground Music Festival.

I’m happy Kevin Gates is back. I expect him to pick up where he left off and give us great tracks to fall in love with. He might not have two phones after his time in jail, but I’m sure he’s going to give us all a wake up call.

[SAVE YOUR MONEY] DON’T SEE JUSTIN BIEBER

Justin Bieber is a celebrity who certainly has a huge ego. Not only does he have a DUI, he is known to have public outbursts that really contradict his stage performance of someone who is a loving guy who wants to treat his girlfriend right. The “Baby” singer is not afraid of being a complete asshole due to his money and fame. But his fans are still strong and are willing to spend hundreds of dollars on tickets. His music is still pretty good so I wouldn’t mind buying a ticket to see him, especially since Post Malone was his opening act for his Purpose tour.

Justin Bieber has actually been known to cancel his shows last second and leave his fans confused and upset. In the summer of 2017, Justin announced that the remaining 14 dates of his Purpose World Tour would be canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances.” He did not provide a full explanation, which was pretty rude. He claims he was exhausted from going on tour for a full year, but if you are a performer, it’s your job. Based on the tour dates, Justin had a total of 330 days off over a span of 480 days. That’s a lot of time to get some rest. Other pop artists have no problem performing for their fans. For example, Taylor Swift’s tour contained 85 shows, Beyonce had 49 shows and Rihanna played 75 shows. This is why these artists have stuck around for years.

When questioned Justin stated that he made his decision based on spiritual soul-searching and his own view of the path in life he should be taking. What do you mean?
This is not the first time that Justin has acted like a complete psycho. He reportedly crashed his car into a paparazzo as he was leaving a City Church event in Los Angeles in 2017.

In February 2017 he head-butted a man during a confrontation at a West Hollywood restaurant. In November 2016 Bieber punched a fan that got into his car window. In October 2016 he told screaming fans,

“Can you guys do me a favor? Can you guys just relax for about two seconds? I get it, I get it, but I’m like two feet away from you. And I can hear you. I appreciate all the love, it’s amazing. But can you show it in a different way? Screaming is just so obnoxious.”

In this Instagram post he literally told fans that he hates meeting them:

On October 2015 he walked out of an interview on the Spanish radio show. Also he had a concert in Oslo Norway where he stopped the show and said,

“I’m done. I’m not doing the show.”

Could you imagine being in the audience?

In January 2014, Bieber was accused of breaking a lot of laws, which included drunk driving, driving with an expired license, underage drinking and he is unable to go to Argentina due to a warrant out for his arrest in the country. He seems to be leaving a path of destruction.

If Justin continues to treat his fans like this, they are going to start falling off. People can only tolerate an asshole for so long. It might be too late to say sorry.

[REMEMBERING THE GREATS] LL COOL J- I NEED LOVE

Today is all about love and looking back at the songs that made us believe in love. LL Cool J released one of the best love songs in rap back in 1987 entitled, “I Need Love.” This track actually started a new form of rap called the rap ballad. This song was an unexpected crossover that gave LL Cool J a new reputation of someone who could be introspective and romantic besides his MC persona. It was also LL Cool J’s first big hit which peaked at #14 in the US and reached the top 10 in five European countries. Without this hit, LL Cool J might of not have been as big as he is today.

Listen to it again here:

He told sources that the lyrics only took a half hour to write while he thought deeply about his loneliness. In the song, he expresses his regret for leading women on and realizes now that it was the wrong path to take. What goes around comes back around, and now he is the one who is lonely. In contrast, his other songs objectify women, but in this one, he takes a step back. He might be a womanizer, but some can steal his heart.

He sings:

“Although I often reminisce I can’t believe that I found
A desire for true love floating around
Inside my soul because my soul is cold
One half of me deserves to be this way till I’m old
But the other half needs affection and joy”

Overall this track is not only legendary but it opened up the rap genre to explore more slowed down tunes about love and relationships. Without this song, we might not have seen rap open up their hearts to talk about more personal struggles.

[MUSIC & LOVE] JOHN LENNON AND YOKO ONO

This Valentine’s Day we don’t want to be bitter but celebrate the joy that love brings into our lives. Music is one of the biggest unifiers in the world and helps us connect with others on a much powerful level. Music not only makes us feel love, but it could be the cause of finding love. There have been many romances in the music world but I want to take this time remember the crazy romance of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

They met in November 1966 at a London gallery where Yoko was preparing an exhibition for her work. They instantly connected and started their infamous romance. On March 20, 1969, they were married, and the wedding was beautiful.

They started to collaborate creative pieces together and created the term “bagism” which was a series of lithographs that was a part of their peace campaign. It involved wearing bags over your body to satirize prejudice and stereotyping.

In 1970 The Beatles broke up, but John and Yoko collaborated on a series of music projects. Their last project came out in 1980, entitled Double Fantasy.

Listen to the full album here:

Not only were they were in love, but they were soul mates. They were creatively similar and worked better together to create their vision. It seems like they were put on this world to create music together. There was no breaking these two up, until the unfortunate and sudden death of John Lennon.

On the day of Lennon’s assassination, Annie Leibovitz photographed the couple together. It captured their love during his final moments. The death was devastating for Yoko and my heart goes out to her.

Even years after, Yoko is still affected by his death.

Watch her tear up in this interview years later:

Unfortuantly they couldn’t grow old together, but the legacy of their love will always prevail.

There are also a lot of free documentaries on Youtube you can access to see the love that these two had for each other.
