THE JONAS BROTHERS TEAM UP TO FIGHT CANCER

The Jonas Brothers comprised of Joe, Nick and Kevin were a Disney Channel band that received airplay on Radio Disney and the Disney Channel. The trio released their self-titled album in 2007 and it reached the top 5 on the Billboard chart. Although they are no longer around, they will still always be in our hearts. Their single “S.O.S.” was an anthem to every middle schooler there was.

But even though they are long gone, they still have solo careers. Nick Jonas has released a great deal of music under his name and Joe is a part of the band DNCE. They also have been teasing a reunion tour, but after the recent news, it might not happen.

Their dad, Kevin Jonas, Sr. was diagnosed with colon cancer in March and his sons reportedly dropped everything to be with him. He underwent surgery at Sloane Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. They just released the statement and made it public that their dad was suffering from this illness. So far he seems to be staying strong with the support from the Jo Bros.

I wish the family well and hope everything works out in the end.

[POST MALONE] THE COVER KING

Post Malone has a wide variety of talent. Even though he is a rapper, he is so much more than that. Most of his songs tap into his vulnerable side and he is not afraid to get emotional on stage. You can really see his raw emotions when he performs, which sets him apart from all the other rappers in the game. Not only has he put out his incredible album, Stoney in 2016 but he covers a lot of famous songs.

Check out my review on Stoney here

Nirvana “All Apologies”:

He is no Kurt Cobain but he puts a great spin on it. He has the vocal talent to pull this song off. I couldn’t see any other singer in the game right now doing an impressive cover of one of the greatest bands of all time. Post is truly a rockstar.

Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right”:

This was covered in 2013, and it helped him gain more popularity to start up his fanbase. The soulful cover evokes emotions that shows how versatile he is.

Bon Jovi – “Wanted Dead or Alive”:

This one is lower quality, but his voice isn’t. I’m so thankful for Instagram live after this.

Green Day – “Basket Case”:

It is almost crazy how well Post Malone covers a punk song. He should really release more of a punk album to show off his talent. He could really be the start of reviving the genre. Also, I love the sparkly guitar.

Kanye West – “Heartless”:

Here Post covers one of the greatest love songs of all time, “Heartless.” He gives it a more emotional feel and the acoustic works well to rework the song.

Overall we should thank Post Malone for blessing us with his covers to these songs. He really does a good job that putting his own spin on the song while remaining true to the central message. The best part about Post is that he doesn’t shy away from being vulnerable on stage. He brings so much to these songs and they are respectable covers. Hopefully, he continues to put out more so we can be reminded of just how interesting it is to listen to a different version of a classic.

[MY TOP PICKS] THE BEST LOVE SONGS

It’s Valentine’s Day which means everyone is either buying last second chocolates and love cards or they are getting drunk at a bar. Whatever your situation is, everyone knows how much singers love to write about love. Love is an emotion that is all encompassing and is one of the most powerful feelings that humans can experience. All this passion can drive artists to make incredible songs about love and love lost.

Here is some of my favorite tracks about love and heart break:

[KANYE WEST] RUNAWAY IS STILL GETTING REMIXED

During the Superbowl, there were some worthy commercials that caught our eye. One of them included a new trailer for Season 2 of HBO’s Westworld.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=65&v=qUmfriZoMw0

Even though I have no idea what Westworld is, I did notice something about the background music. My ears shot up and were sent back to 2010 to Kanye West’s release of “Runaway.” Not only was this song one of his most emotional releases, it was also phenomenally produced.

Runaway makes you feel a longing for yesterday which produces intense emotions of disconnected sadness. It is a tribute to all the “assholes” who only have a hard exterior to cover up the insecurities they have within them. Taking that concept and putting it into a song perfectly showed Kanye’s talent as an artist. So much so that it is still getting remixed eight years later.

The version in the Westworld trailer was created by the show’s composer Ramin Djawadi as the request of co-creator Jonathan Nolan.

Djawadi stated,

“I had a lot of fun working on reimagining the song. It is always tricky to reduce a song with multiple layers in to a single instrument, I’m a fan of Kayne’s music. It would be fun to cover ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing.'”

He really made the song much more stripped down. It sounds like a true classical piece. Overall this cover reminded me of one of the best song’s Kanye has ever put out and I will always love hearing news like this.

[UPCOMING ARTIST] MARIAHLYNN

Rapper Mariahlynn got her start by staring on the VH1 reality show Love & Hip Hop: New York who became a main cast member in season six. She started rapping during her teenage years and continued to work on her talent. She dropped her debut rap single called “Once Upon a Time” along with a video on November 22nd, 2015.

Watch it here:

Not only is the song actually funny, it is also one that I keep coming back to. A lot of rappers don’t know how to laugh at themselves and she is bringing something new to the table.

She also has more stand out tracks that you can view here:

My favorite part about Mariahlynn is her attitude. She truly does not take any shit and gets the job done. Her hair and makeup are also incredible as she brings a visual aspect to herself. DJ Self helped get her records out and she already has an established fanbase. She has about 659k followers on Instagram and 102k followers on Twitter. With talent like hers and a strong stage presence, she won’t be a small independent artist for long.

Cardi B also got her start from Love & Hip Hop so Mariahlynn might just be on the brink of fame. An artist who knows how to market herself is sure to make a name for herself.
