[SPORTS] COLLEGE FOOTBALL CONFERENCE TITLE GAME PICKS

Who’s Going Home Crowned As Conference Champs?

It’s that time of the year again in college football!

After a long journey, the best of the best from the Power 5 conferences are set to do battle for their conference championships.

It’s Championship Saturday, with a rematch of last year’s National Championship thriller between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs headlining the slate of games.

Another anticipated matchup, the one that will happen at AT&T Stadium between Red River rivals as the Oklahoma Sooners look for revenge against the Texas Longhorns.

Pac-12 Championship Game: No. 17 Utah vs. No. 11 Washington

A rematch of a Week 3 matchup in Salt Lake City from September in which Washington rolled to a 21-7 victory in enemy territory, Utah should provide the Huskies with more of a fight here.

Utah changed quarterbacks, going from Tyler Huntley to freshman Jason Shelley, who is a dual-threat option capable of causing Washington fits. In a game third down conversions and extending drives will count, look for Jake Browning and Washington to be the better of the two teams in that category.

Prediction: Washington 27 Utah 16

ACC Championship Game: No. 2 Clemson vs. Pittsburgh

Clemson is listed as a -27.5 favorite vs. Pittsburgh this Saturday at Bank of America Stadium, which tells you all you need to know about this matchup. If this game is in anyway competitive, it’ll be because of Pittsburgh’s front four putting constant pressure on Trevor Lawrence.

Unlikely.

Prediction: Clemson 42 Pittsburgh 13

Big Ten Title Game: No. 6 Ohio State vs. No. 21 Northwestern

Coach Pat Fitzgerald did an excellent job with this Northwestern football team during the regular-season. Northwestern was 8-1 in conference play, with their lone loss being a 20-17 home defeat vs. Michigan back at the end of September. As we saw this past Saturday, Ohio State is a little better than Jim Harbaugh’s football team.

From a talent perspective, these two teams aren’t close. If Northwestern wants any chance at victory, they must establish a rushing attack early and often with freshman Isaiah Bowser to keep Ohio State off the field. I’m betting against it.

Prediction: Ohio State 44 Northwestern 23

Big 12 Championship Game: No. 5 Oklahoma vs. No. 14 Texas

The stakes were high for Oklahoma the first time these teams played. While it’s hard to say how much Oklahoma has improved since losing the first meeting in a wild 48-45 shootout in Dallas, Texas, it’s unlikely that Oklahoma has three turnovers like they did back in October.

Those three turnovers — two by Heisman hopeful Kyler Murray — changed the momentum of that game. Protecting the football is one of the strengths of Lincoln Riley’s football team, and we’ll see a different game take form here because of that in what should be a convincing but high-drama battle.

Prediction: Oklahoma 48 Texas 40

SEC Championship Game: No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 4 Georgia

While familiarity with a team plays a significant role and Kirby Smart’s team has plenty of it, I can’t see Georgia’s offense enjoying the same level of success vs this stout Alabama defense as they have against others this season.

Early on Georgia should be able to make this a competitive game because of their outstanding front four and their ability to stop the run, but it won’t be long before Tua Tagovailoa and that explosive Alabama offense gets it going.

Prediction: Alabama 34 Georgia 16

[ENTERTAINMENT] ZAC EFRON IS TED BUNDY

[ENTERTAINMENT] ZAC EFRON IS TED BUNDY

Zac Efron is starring as serial killer Ted Bundy in the upcoming biopic “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.” Directed by documentarian Joe Berlinger, the film will focus on Bundy’s crimes and eventual downfall. Lily Collins of “Okja” and “Rules Don’t Apply” will be playing Bundy’s longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer.

The film is said to focus on Kloepfer and her perspective of being involved with a dangerous murderer. Apparently it will focus on her struggling to come to terms with the possibility that the man she loves in, in fact, evil. Before his execution (not a spoiler alert if it’s real life) he confessed to 30 murders, but rumors say he killed many more.

If not unique, it’s certainly interesting that Bundy was always described as handsome and charismatic. No one would’ve thought he was a serial killer, and it was a huge shock when his horrible pass-time was revealed to the public. People who look like that aren’t supposed to be serial killers; it’s supposed to be reserved for creepy guys. Bundy changed the public’s perspective on who can actually be evil.

Efron, who was catipulted to mainstream success thanks to Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” franchise, seems to be a great choice for Bundy, and while only a few images have been released, I have a feeling he’s going to do a really good job. At least, I hope he will.

With the Sundance lineup announced this week, it was revealed that the Ted Bundy biopic would be making its debut at the Utah festival this upcoming January, where it will likely be bought by a distribution company and set to be released later in 2019 (potentially at an awards-friendly release date).

Do you have any interest in seeing “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile?” Do you think Zac Efron was a good choice to play Ted Bundy? Do you think that a film like this could potentially glorify Bundy’s actions? Let me know in the comments below!

[ENTERTAINMENT] AWKWAFINA HEADS TO COMEDY CENTRAL

2018 has been quite the year for Awkwafina. After building a following through her comedic rapping, she was cast as part of “Ocean’s 8’s” ensemble, as well as in “Crazy Rich Asians.” She’s been on the talk show circuit, done countless interviews and now, she’s heading to Comedy Central.’

The cable network has picked up a half-hour scripted series, written by and starring the Asian American comedian.  According to The Wrap, the show sounds like it’ll be part-autobiographical, as it will center on an Asian twenty-something living in Queens with show business aspirations.

Awkwafina has been on the verge of mainstream success for years, and it seems as though she’s finally on her way to real stardom. Her songs, including “Green Tea” “NYC BITCHE$” and “My Vag” are all really clever, and she’s actually a pretty apt rapper.

[ENTERTAINMENT] AMANDA SEYFRIED OPENS UP ABOUT ‘ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT’ SCANDAL

[ENTERTAINMENT] AMANDA SEYFRIED OPENS UP ABOUT ‘ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT’ SCANDAL

The “Arrested Development” story is one that just won’t die, and now Amanda Seyfried has added some more fodder to the fire. During the show’s Season 4 revival in 2013, it came out that Jeffrey Tambor, who has since fallen victim to a #MeToo scandal that cost him his job on Amazon’s “Transparent”, verbally abused costar Jessica Walters.

Walters, who plays the family matriarch Lucille Bluth on “Arrested Development” has spoken about it in the past, ad during a May interview with “The New York Times” promoting the show’s fifth season, it was once again brought up in an interview with the whole cast.

Walters was actually moved to tears while describing the fateful encounter with Tambor, but the worst part about it was how her costars reacted. Jason Bateman and David Cross not only spoke over Walters, but defended Tambor time and time again. The other female cast member Alia Shawkat (costar Portia de Rossi declined to participate), tried to stand up for Walters, but her voice was mostly drowned out.

Many people were disgusted with Tambor, Bateman and Cross’s handling of the situation and tone during the interview, leading the latter two to release public statements apologizing for their behavior.

It seemed to be forgotten about, but now Amanda Seyfried has reinvigorated the discussion with her latest Instagram post, which featured her husband, “John Wick” costar Thomas Sadowski, smiling with Walters. The caption mentions that Sadowski lost work for posting a similarly impassioned post sticking up for Jessica.

Before reposting her husband’s caption, Seyfried wrote “Here’s a somewhat recent post from my husband who, in return for standing beside a badass woman who’d recently been bullied, recently lost out on a job because of this. I’d rather speak up and lose out. Integrity, ladies and gentlemen. #Repost @thomas_sadoski” The full caption can be read below.

What do you think of this whole “Arrested Development” scandal? Are you still waiting for the second half of season five to drop on Netflix, or has this tainted your perception of the show? Let me know in the comments below!

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT’ IS DEFINITELY NOT FOR EVERYONE

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT’ IS DEFINITELY NOT FOR EVERYONE

It’s no surprise that Lars von Trier is a controversial filmmaker. The castration scene in “Antichrist” Bjork’s heartbreaking final song in “Dancer in the Dark” and the graphic and violent sex scenes in “Nymphomaniac” are only some of the many times the controversial auteur has been accused of going too far. His new film “The House That Jack Built” is no exception, as many are claiming its his most shocking film yet.

The movie, which stars Matt Dillon as a serial killer recounting his life story, premiered at the Cannes film festival this past May to countless walkouts and boos. The film is split in sections, each devoted to a different murder Jack committed. According to audiences who have seen it, there’s an especially disturbing sequence involving children’s corpses and the torturing of a baby duck. The film was so controversial that it’s no longer being shown in its entirety. The version that played at Cannes is now being labeled the Unrated Version, while an edited, slightly less graphic cut of the film will be available to stream or watch in the theaters next month.

However, on November 28, IFC Theaters released the Unrated Version of “The House That Jack Built” for a one night only, special engagement, for fans of more shocking cinema. However, the MPAA (the Motion Picture Association of America), who are in charge of rating a film from G through NC-17, say that the theater violated rules by showing an unrated film.

In a statement released last night, the MPAA said they have “communicated to the distributor, IFC Films, that the screening of an unrated version of the film in such close proximity to the release of the rated version – without obtaining a waiver – is in violation of the rating system’s rules.” They’re threatening to sanction the theaters and take future action regarding their upcoming slate of releases.

If anyone needs convincing that the MPAA is power hungry and ridiculously unnecessary, take a look at the 2006 documentary “This Film is Not Yet Rated” which reveals that shady business practices, arbitrary rules and cult-ish behavior of the association. It’s eye-opening, surprising and only further cements that they should be, if not disbanded, severely amended.

We’ll have to wait and see what the MPAA’s next move is, as well as how IFC responds.

Von Trier’s previous film “Nymphomaniac” also had an Unrated cut. The five and a half hour film was split into two parts, and while they were both available to stream on Netflix, their Unrated counterparts were also available, giving viewers the option as to which one they wanted to watch. I wonder if “The House That Jack Built” will have a similar release strategy, or if this controversy is the final nail on the Unrated Version’s future.
