Winston Duke (Us, Black Panther) and Zazie Beetz (Atlanta, Joker) are set to star in sci-fi thriller “Nine Days”.
The indie film has an interesting, philosophical premise which I am intrigued to see. It is set in an alternate, future reality inside a man’s home. The man interviews a group of individuals, personifications of human souls, to decide which should be born as a human.
Writer and director of the movie, Edson Oda said in a statement, “”I’m thrilled to be working with such an incredible cast and amazing team. So grateful for all the support I have received. Nine Days is a very personal story to me, and I can’t imagine a better team to help me tell it.” This is Oda’s first time directing and writing a movie and I’ve got to say, he’s not off to a bad start.
“This is one of the most beautiful and complex human stories we’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of, so eloquently spanning across cultures and vantage points, yet set in a world that we’ve never experienced before,” Producers Berman, Kongsved, and Tunstall said in a joint statement. “Being able to partake in creating something so wholly original, and facilitating the realization of Edson’s singular vision with the help of this outrageously talented cast and crew, is truly exciting.”
According to Complex, filming for the movie will begin this summer but there is yet to a set release date.
It’s good to see Offset putting his foot down on the issues that matter. During one of Cardi B’s recent livestreams, he was seen playing Fortnite and offered a scathing critique of the massively popular game: “That shit for kids, that shit wack. I like Call of Duty, get your ass in the field, real game. If you gon’ die, you gon die. All that building up, it ain’t real life.”
To be fair, the whole respawning part of Call of Duty is not real life and Fortnite’s one death rule is way more realistic. But I’m not sure that was what Offset was going for. You see, it’s not about how many times you die that makes it like real life, it’s the fact that walls magically appearing in front of someone is not realistic. In that sense, Offset is quite discerning.
Cardi B offered her point of view as well saying, “Yeah because I be seeing the kids talk about the game, but I don’t really know. My favorite game is really Mortal Kombat.” You’re wrong Cardi, that game sucks.
For those that couldn’t wait for a glimpse at Beyoncé’s role in the upcoming Lion King remake, myself included, our wait has ended. Disney released a new trailer, “Come Home”, that features Beyoncé voicing the role of Nala.
The movie’s cast is chock full of other celebrities including Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, Eric Andre, John Oliver, and more. The Lion King is coming to theaters July 19th.
Let us know what you think of this glimpse of Beyoncé’s performance and the movie in general in the comments.
The final season of Game of Thrones has certainly been far the shakiest, agreed upon by both the critics and masses. Not only are the ratings very low, but I’d bet that if you are a Game of Thrones fan, there is a big chance that either you or someone you know disliked the final season. For example, the Rotten Tomatoes ratings reflect this, as critical ratings started to plunge after the second episode. Episode 3, “The Long Night”, got a 75% rating which was actually one of the lowest of the entire series up to that point. It then got progressively worse with 58%, 47%, and 56% for the final three episodes. Sure the writers aren’t aided by George R.R. Martin’s source material, and sure the writers are allowed to slip up and maybe even have a few bad episodes, but the blunder is unacceptable when the episodes are the most important of the entire series.
For these reasons, after Episode 4: “The Last of the Stark”, there was made an online petition on Change.org to remake the entire final season with “competent writers” and it has garnered over a million signatures so far. The petition officially reads: ““David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense.” Though it is unlikely that HBO will spend tens of millions of dollars to remake the six episodes, this petition is at least a testament to the overall negative reception of the final season.
With Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, Chris Rock will be creating and producing the next Saw movie. Rock wrote the story, and the movie will be directed by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The series is about the Jigsaw Killer, always played by Tobin Bell, who tests victims’ survival instincts in cruel and unusual ways.
“When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in,” said Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake. “Saw is one of the highest-grossing horror franchises of all-time, and it’s one of Lionsgate’s most successful film series. This upcoming film will still be as mind-bending and intense as all the previous Saw films. Chris conceived this idea, and it will be completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision and passion for this classic horror franchise.”
Chris Rock said: “I’ve been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004. I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.” Longtime series producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules added: “Chris wants to put his own spin on the Saw franchise in the way Eddie Murphy put a completely fresh perspective on buddy-cop films with 48 Hours. This new Saw is going to be an event film in the making for horror fans. It will have all of the twists and turns and hardcore layers that our fans expect directed by one of the masters of the craft, Darren Lynn Bousman. We can’t wait to get started.”
I’ve loved Saw movies and I’ve loved Chris Rock movies such as Lethal Weapon 4 and Beverly Hills Cop 2, so this seems like a match made in heaven.
On Wednesday, Netflix announced that Black Mirror will return for it’s fifth season. It came with a trailer, which features Miley Cyrus in meta-role playing a famous pop star that has undergone some kind of change to gain popularity. It’s eerily similar to the premise of Hannah Montana, with Cyrus having two different hair styles for home and performing. Besides Miley Cyrus, who announced she would be acting for the show in December, the other actors are Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Damson Idris, Andrew Scott, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.
The themes of the show will be similar to previous seasons, focusing on social media, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, etc. The writers for this season are the returning Charlie Booker, and the new Annabel Jones. There will only be three stories to the series, with no word on how many episodes per story or if they’ll even be in order. Hopefully there isn’t just a single episode per story-line or we kinda got screwed over. At least we know that it won’t be a choose-your-own-adventure as Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was.
The show is set to come out on June 5th so have fun using technology until then.
