[MUSIC] A BOOGIE ADDRESS RECORD LOW ALBUM SALES

With Hoodie SZN going crazy in the streets, A Boogie Wit The Hoodie is doing his rounds in the media. A Boogie just scored his first number 1 album after the third week of Hoodie Szn being on the BillBoards. But one major problem with the album is that it also set a record for lowest physical copies sold for a number 1 album at 823.

Today on Complex Everyday Struggle A Boogie address the comments made on his accomplishments “It sound like they trying to discredit me. I’mma keep it A buck. But at the same time Its like, I dont give a fuck because I went brazy.”

Its 2019 and streams are what matter most. Where would you even find a CD at since Best Buy stop selling them, let alone find a CD player. This drew attention from the fact A Boogie secured his first number 1 ever and put a spotlight on how streams are calculated. “I did 90 units first week. I did 50 something the second week. 50 something again the following week.” A Boogie explained before saying his numbers will always be good because he focuses on making timeless music. ” You can’t deny real music like real music you can’t deny that shit. That shit gonna last forever, for real for real, And a lot of songs on this album are forever lasting.”

All bs aside congratulations to the Bronx rapper of his number 1 album showing his trajectory as a artist is undeniable. Also in the video he mention that the follow up to Hoodie Szn is “ARTIST 2.0” and Artist Vs A Boogie” which both are going to be featureless. A Boogie also talks about how he’s done doing features and how he’s getting more into fashion this year. Check out the video below.

[ENTERTAINMENT] HOW ‘BIRD BOX’ BECAME NETFLIX’S BIGGEST SUCCESS

[ENTERTAINMENT] HOW ‘BIRD BOX’ BECAME NETFLIX’S BIGGEST SUCCESS

If you look, you die.

That’s the premise of Netflix’s Sandra Bullock film “Bird Box.” It’s one part “The Happening” and one part “A Quiet Place” with monsters that, once seen, make people commit suicide. This means that everyone hoping to survive must be blindfolded.

It might sound ridiculous, but the atmospheric thriller, directed by “The Night Manager’s” Susanne Bier, has become Netflix’s biggest hit, with over 45 million people watching it through its first week of release.

How did this small thriller with a reported budget of only $19.8 million, become the streaming service’s most successful hit? It seems to be a combination of three elements, not including luck — Sandra Bullock’s star power, its release just before the holidays, and the countless memes being made about the movie.

Netflix releases new movies and television shows each week, oftentimes with little publicity. Because of their high quantity of content, many projects find themselves flying under the radar, just to be scrolled past on the site’s streaming interface. However, “Bird Box” star Sandra Bullock proved to be a main drawing point for audiences.

The Oscar-winning actress, who recently led the all-female “Ocean’s 8” to box office success, is undoubtedly a star. As many looked for contenders for what to watch, they saw Bullock’s name on the poster and likely wondered “What’s ‘Miss Congeniality’ doing in a Netflix movie?” Curiosity seemed to get the best of them, and before they knew it, they were watching “Bird Box.”

“The Blind Side” actress is certainly attracting viewers to the film, as is its supporting cast, which includes “American Horror Story’s” Sarah Paulson, “Moonlight’s” Trevante Rhodes and the idiosyncratic John Malkovich.

Releasing worldwide on December 13, “Bird Box” became a prime contender for people to watch during their holiday break. As many sat around their Christmas trees looking for something to stream as a family, this film, which flew relatively under the radar before its debut, seemed like a viable option for a movie night. This was clearly not a singular thought, as close to half a billion people watched the film on its first seven days of release, but it proves how solid the marketing and release strategy was for “Bird Box’s” success.

The film’s marketing was, no doubt, important, but the streaming giant couldn’t have expected the movie to become one of 2018’s final meme formats.

With its release just as winter break began, many college and high school students found themselves with plenty of free time to create different memes related to the movie, which caused a firestorm on social media. Twitter, Reddit, and Instagram were all flooded with different “Bird Box” memes, which did more to hype up the film than any preview could have.

As everyone scrolled through their feeds that became increasingly populated by memes relating to the movie, they almost felt like they had to watch it. The almost countless posts proved to be some of the best viral marketing possible, as it was all free and produced directly by and for the increasingly hard to reach “Gen Z.” Some of the younger viewers didn’t even know who Sandra Bullock was, to which Twitter did not take kindly!

After watching the movie, many decided to try the “’Bird Box’ Challenge” which involved trying to navigate through life blindfolded, just as Bullock and the characters were forced to do. While it began as a harmless joke, it was quickly taken to the next level when some took the blindfolded test behind the wheel of their car (again, straight out of the movie). Multiple car crashes were reported and many were injured, which caused Netflix to release a statement via Twitter dissuading their audience from trying the “’Bird Box’ Challenge.”

“Bird Box” proved to be a perfect storm for Netflix over the holiday season. Despite its tepid critical response (it currently has only 62% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and a 51% on Metacritic) the star power Sandra Bullock brought to the table, its release over the holiday break, and the boost in publicity the film got thanks to the memes yielded Netflix their most viewed, and most buzzed about, film of the year.

Have you seen “Bird Box” yet and, if not, why not? Let me know in the comments below!

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘GAME OF THRONES’ PREMIERE DATE REVEALED IN NEW TRAILER

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘GAME OF THRONES’ PREMIERE DATE REVEALED IN NEW TRAILER

Winter is officially here on April 14.

Just before airing the first episode of “True Detective’s” third season, HBO unveiled a new trailer for their juggernaut success “Game of Thrones.”

Taking place in the crypts under Winterfell, the 90 second teaser featured three of the surviving Starks, Sansa, Arya and Jon Snow reuniting at their family’s grave. After voiceovers from their aunt and parents (the long deceased Lyanna, Eddard and Catelyn Stark) play as they march towards their family reunion, the trio see stone statues versions of themselves, potentially signifying their respective demises, or at the very least underscoring that in this show, no one’s safe from a grisly death. Jon and Arya draw their swords, ready to fight as their fire is extinguished and the winter chill comes towards them.

This trailer reminded audiences that this is really it. We’ve got just six more episodes until “Game of Thrones” is done forever. While there are rumors that these final group of episodes will be closer to feature length than the typical hour-long installments, fans are still preparing themselves for the sure to be emotional withdrawal process of losing one of the most acclaimed shows after eight years.

With its final season premiering on April 14, people still have the opportunity to get caught up on “Game of Thrones” with HBO Go. This show has been on the forefront of pop culture for the better part of a decade, and its finale will surely be a cultural phenomenon, not matched since the conclusions of “Breaking Bad” or “The Sopranos.” It’s seriously going to be an event, and not one to be missed.

If you want a quick refresher of the previous seasons, I strongly recommend watching Funny or Die’s “Gay of Thrones” recaps, which were “Queer Eye” Star Jonathan Van Ness’s breakout role. His reviews are concise, funny and pretty conclusive, with each character given a ridiculous nickname and referred to as such throughout the series (for example, Daenerys is called Christina Aguilera throughout).

As it’s become my catchphrase over the last few months to my friends who are still holding out watching the Westeros series, “You’ve gotta watch ‘GoT!’”

With his sights set towards being in the medical field, Jonathan would spend the duration of his high school career laying low and under the radar in many ways. Staying quiet and to the books was the aim, with a focus never to be broken by those around him. From the books to the dream is how this story goes, Jon would spend three of his four years of high school at Bridgewater-Raritan High School in Bridgewater, New Jersey. After spending his first year at Bound Brook High School, it was noticed that the education was not sufficient enough at this point in his life, so the transfer was then made to Bridgewater. Walking through the doors to his new high school, with a fresh start and keyed in focus, this would set out to be a pronounced turning point in his life as well as his career. Alongside the academics that he would follow along this period of time, he himself would become increasingly recognized by his peers, so much so in fact that he would gross 11k followers on his Instagram by the end of his senior year. In progression towards his milestone, it would come to be that Jonathan would merge his knowledge of marketing and recognition of those around him to stake his claim in social media.

He would then apply and be accepted to Kean State University in Union and Hillside, NJ for a Double Major in Business Administration and Marketing with his sights now forming the vision, the dream, the life that in just 7 months would set to be. As the vision has been shaped, crafted to everything it is meant to be for himself and the portrayal towards others it would be that he ended up progressing into taking a gap year and pursue the goals. Jersey Jon set out to increase his social media outreach, establish himself as a DJ as well as an event coordinator, in complete as invested in the music industry as he can be. Aimed at learning from the best to be the best he can be, provide the highest quality in content. Building a solid movement behind him, he has progressed from an attention guided 11k, to a fully active branch of interaction on current posts. Pulling an average of 5,000 to 6,000 likes per post, three times the amount of people he was in highschool with at any given time beside a ratio on comments of anywhere from 200 to 1,000 depending on the contents. Interaction goes beyond the physical posts as Jersey Jon also runs multiple, various further interaction points with his followers anywhere from personal follower interaction, giveaways, DMs. Which takes his base status to a new level in that he is able to take this ratio and consistently turn over activity.

Going from being a high school graduation to an Insta-star for Jersey Jon has been on a journey that has encompassed vast amounts of personal growth in that he would go from wanting to be involved with the medical field to being a business man with the aim and vision to not only continue to change his life, but all those he has and will do business as time passes. Two events come to mind in specifics pertaining to the last four months, so just about half of his established career encompassing that of his work, and those would be the shows of Ugly God and NBA Youngboy. The crowd exposure as well as in show interaction would have his numbers sitting in between 2,400 to 2,600 which combined for both would around 5,200 people which is just shy of two times the amount of people that would fill his high school during his time there. Current goals for Jersey Jon include becoming more deeply connected with his core support and those around him that not only benefit him but the overall vision, growing his current media standing including that of being verified, increase the network available to be able to span across further distances.

[ENTERTAINMENT] BEST MOMENTS OF THE 2019 GOLDEN GLOBES

[ENTERTAINMENT] BEST MOMENTS OF THE 2019 GOLDEN GLOBES

Sunday night’s Golden Globes officially brought us into the 2019 awards season, and it was more unexpected than usual. With films winning in genre-bending categories and an especially controversial year, if the Golden Globes are any prediction as to what’s to come in the next two months, we’re in for quite the ride.

“Bohemian Rhapsody”

The Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” was the surprise big winner of the night, taking home Best Motion Picture Drama and Best Actor in a Leading Role for star Rami Malek.

The Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” won the top honor, Best Picture Drama, and Twitter was quick to react. Many pointed out the film’s 62% Rotten Tomatoes score and the movie’s problematic director Bryan Singer (the center of his own Time’s Up scandal and the documentary “An Open Secret” which details his alleged sexual misconduct). With co-host Sandra Oh talking about the change in the entertainment industry, it seems almost hypocritical that this film would be lauded with the biggest award of the night. And I’m not even going to get into the fact that it’s not in the Comedy/Musical category, while movies like “Vice” and “Green Book” were under the Comedy/Musical category.

People were so upset about “Bohemian Rhapsody’s” win that they even took to Twitter to shame 15 year old Elsie Fisher for congratulating the film in a tweet. I get that Bryan Singer is a bad guy, but let’s not take it out on the 15-year-old who’s new to the industry and at one of her first major events. She’s a teenager; can we expect her to be fully versed on all the controversies surrounding all the films? Let’s give her a break.

Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh

With the still ongoing controversy surrounding the search for an Oscars host, many were waiting to see what this year’s Golden Globes host would do. An unlikely pair, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s” Andy Samberg and “Killing Eve’s” Sandra Oh took to the stage and began the evening with a relatively light-hearted opening. They had pretty good chemistry and timing, and some of their jokes really landed. Oh’s joke about “Crazy Rich Asians” being the first Asian-American led film since “Ghost in the Shell” and “Aloha” (in which Scarlett Johansson and Emma Stone played Asian characters) got a huge laugh and a yelled apology from Stone. Oh also said that the Neil Armstrong biopic “First Man” was coincidentally how producers looked for film directors. “First man, then two man, then group of man, then maybe woman.”  Not known for her comedic chops (excluding her small but memorable role as Vice Principal Gupta in “The Princess Diaries”), Oh definitely held her ground next to “SNL” alum Samberg.

Their best bit of the night came when they said that since the Golden Globes already give the attendees a dinner, they were going to mix it up and give everyone flu shots. LMFAO’s “Shots” started blasting as lab coated “doctors” rushed the crowd, pretending to give them flu shots. It led to Samberg making a crack at the anti-vaccination movement and was a lighthearted but especially funny moment.

“Roma”

Netflix’s “Roma” took home Best Foreign Film and Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron.

The Golden Globes are put on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, so it seems weird that this awards show, with its emphasis on the foreign press, has a rule that the Best Drama nominees must be English language films. This meant that Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma” wasn’t able to compete in the big category. However, the HFPA seemed to notice the error in their ways, and gave the black and white, Spanish language Netflix film two awards – Best Foreign Film and Best Director. The slow, atmospheric film takes its time unveiling its story, but if you stick with it (and don’t mind reading subtitles) its an emotional journey worth taking. The film, consisting almost exclusively of deep focus cinematography and long takes, is one of the most beautiful looking films of the year. Some say it’s too slow, but I implore everyone to at least give “Roma” a chance. It’s available on Netflix, so why not put it on tonight?

Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler

The comedy duo took the stage as presenters, but they didn’t waste the opportunity to make fun of the proposal at this year’s Emmy awards. Rudolph, pretending to shake uncontrollably, took out a fake wedding ring and “proposed” to Amy Poehler on stage. Some didn’t get the reference to the Emmy proposal and some didn’t think it was funny, but as a longtime fan of these comedians, I found it to be especially funny.

Christian Bale Thanks Satan

Christian Bale took home Best Lead Actor in a Comedy/Musical for his role as Dick Cheney in “Vice” (which is somehow considered a comedy) and took the stage to accept it. Solidifying the Golden Globe’s reputation as “the Drunk Oscars” the UK actor took a moment to thank Satan for the inspiration in playing Cheney. He also joked about playing  Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell next.

“A Star is Born” Not the Sure Bet It Seemed to Be

Before the Globes, the vast majority of people were putting their money on “A Star is Born” being a big contender. However, the Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga film only won one award – Best Original Song for the mega-hit “Shallow.” With Cooper and Gaga in the front row, it seemed almost sad to see them repeatedly shut out. However, it could likely have something to do with Warner Brothers submitting the movie as a drama instead of a comedy/musical, despite the fact that it revolves around music (similarly to “Bohemian Rhapsody”). Many thought Gaga was a lock for Best Actress, only to lose to Glenn Close for the little-seen “The Wife.” Cooper last Best Actor to Rami Malek and Best Director to Charon. This could just be a momentary speed-bump on the movie’s road to Oscar gold, or it could signal the tides turning for the fourth iteration of “A Star is Born.”

Honorable Mention: Timothee Chalamet’s Glitter Harness

I would be remised if I didn’t take this opportunity to highlight Timothee Chalamet’s outfit. The “Beautiful Boy” nominee broke out of the typical suit and tie norm of male red carpet fashion by adorning a black, glittered harness. The upcoming generation of actors are less bound by traditional fashion norms and are promising more unique red carpet looks for this year’s upcoming awards season.

What did you think of this year’s Golden Globes? Do you think Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh did a good job hosting? Were there any winners that surprised you or any losses that had you flabbergasted? Let me know in the comments below!
