[ENTERTAINMENT] WHY I DON’T THINK LADY GAGA WILL WIN BEST ACTRESS AT THE OSCARS

[ENTERTAINMENT] WHY I DON’T THINK LADY GAGA WILL WIN BEST ACTRESS AT THE OSCARS

Even though Lady Gaga gave an amazing performance in “A Star is Born” I don’t think she’s going to win Best Actress in a Leading Role, and I think it’s Emma Stone’s fault.

Just two years ago, Emma Stone won Best Actress for her role in “La La Land” a musical about Hollywood stardom. She gave a strong performance as the lovestruck barista with dreams of making it on the big screen, complete with live musical numbers and a toe-tapping score. Since Stone got the statue so recently, I can’t see the Academy awarding another young female’s performance in a musical again.

Not to discount Emma Stone’s performance or her win, but I think that Lady Gaga gave a better performance. Her vocals were ridiculously powerful and her acting, which she’s previously displayed in “American Horror Story: Hotel” as well as her music videos, was really strong. The story to “La La Land” was more original than the fourth big-screen iteration of “A Star is Born”(which is not to say either film had especially original storylines; the rise to fame has been explored countless times in cinema).

This doesn’t mean that Gaga isn’t one step closer to EGOT-ing though. I’m fairly confident that she and Bradley Cooper are a lock for Best Original Song. “Shallow” is, without a doubt, the best song in “A Star is Born” and I’m sure Cooper and Gaga will give an amazing live performance at the awards show. I’m sure that “Shallow” will win Best Original Song, putting the superstar one step closer to joining the EGOT club.

Bradley Cooper, however, may very well find himself winning either Best Director or Best Actor in a Leading Role for his work on “A Star is Born.” It really is well directed, especially considering this was Cooper’s first directorial effort. He also gives a very strong, emotional performance. I’d say he may have a better shot at a statue for Directing that Acting just because, again, different versions of the character he plays have been in every “A Star is Born” movie, dating back to the 1930’s.

What do you think about the Oscar chances of “A Star is Born?” Do you think Lady Gaga still has a shot at Best Actress, despite Emma Stone’s win? Do you think Bradley Cooper’s chances are better in the Directing category or Best Lead Actor? Let me know in the comments below.

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘HALLOWEEN’ IS FULL OF CALLBACKS TO THE 1978 ORIGINAL

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘HALLOWEEN’ IS FULL OF CALLBACKS TO THE 1978 ORIGINAL

SLIGHT SPOILER WARNING FOR 2018’S “HALLOWEEN.”

Director David Gordon Green’s remake of the iconic slasher film “Halloween” had the innovative thought to forget about all the sequels. That means that in 2018’s “Halloween” there’s no mention of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) being Michael Myers sister, and none of the events that happened in “Halloween 2”, including Curtis’s reappearance in “Halloween: H2O” and “Halloween: Ressurection.”

Green makes smany of his sequel’s shots eerily remniscent of Carpenter’s original, which not only adds an interesting perspective, but makes the film seem born from the original.

THE OPENING CREDITS

The ’78 film begins with a title sequence with Carpenter’s iconic “Halloween” score playing in the background. Alongside the credits is a jack-o-lantern carved for the holiday. The score combined with the jack-o-lantern and orange titles made this an iconic opening. The 2018 version plays on this.

After an opening sequence introducing two exposition-feeding podcasters, the “Halloween” theme plalys at full volume as it cuts to the film’s opening credits sequence. This time, the jack-o-lantern is destroyed, either kicked in by Myers himself of michevious trick-or-treaters. As the title sequence goes on, the pumpkin slowly raises itself back to life and by the time the opening credits are done, it’s fully formed and seems identical to the original. I thought this was an awesome way to subtly call back to the original.

DAYDREAMING IN CLASS

Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) looks out the window during class only to see Michael Myers standing there.

One of the original’s iconic shots are Laurie, as she’s sitting in English class, daydreaming, staring out the window, only to see a masked Michael Myers standing in the street. Green’s sequel plays with this idea. Laurie’s granddaughter, Allison, is sitting in class (possibly in the exact same seat, I’ll let you know after I rewatch the new version again), looking out the window. Instead of seeing the masked killer, she sees her grandmother, from whom she’s estranged.

This was a really interesting shot, not only because it’s a great call back, but because it raises questions about Laurie’s sanity. Through the sequel, we see that the events in 1978 have taken over Laurie’s life. She couldn’t successfully raise her kids, she became agoraphobic and she secluded herself in the middle of no where. With this shot, audiences subliminally wonder if she’s turned into the monster.

THE CLOSET

If you’ve seen the original “Halloween” chances are you remember the iconic shot of Michael, breaking through the closet door to find Laurie hiding in the corner, cowering in fear. In the remake, this scene is very briefly referenced.

Without getting too heavy into spoilers, I’ll say Laurie is in a house, searching for the-masked-babysitter-murderer, who’s once again managed to escape her grasps. She walks through the different rooms of the house, and in one, comes across a closet that looked identical to the one she hid in 40 years ago. This was probably done to intentionally subvert the audience’s expectations in the third act.

WHERE’D HE GO?

After Michael falls out the window in the ’78 “Halloween” he’s presumed dead, until Loomis and Laurie look out the window and see his body has vanished.

The 1978 “Halloween” ends with Myers getting shot and falling out the window. When Laurie and Dr. Loomis look out to see his dead body, it has mysteriously vanished. Once again, this year’s remake references this shot. Laurie and Michael are in an intense third act showdown, and it looks like Myers has the upper hand. He manages to toss Laurie out the second story window, causing her to roll off the balcony and onto the grass. However, when the masked murderer looks out the window, this time its her body that managed to quickly get away(Don’t worry, I won’t say what happens next).

This remake of “Halloween” is far from perfect. It has too many characters, an inbalanced tone and parts of it seem clumsy. However, the character work done by Jamie Lee Curtis and writer Danny McBride on the character of Laurie Strode is impressive. Walking out of the theater, I was thinking about the lasting effects and trauma that surviving a horror movie would cause, and that’s an idea that’s rarely explored. Even 40 years later, Laurie is still struggling to cope with what went down in Haddonfield.

While not perfect, 2018’s “Halloween” was clearly crafted with care and respect for the original, as evidenced by the shots that mirror the 1978 classic.

[GOSSIP] Kim Kardashian recalls the time she caught stepdad Bruce Jenner wearing women’s clothes

The KUWTK star has opened up about the time she walked in on her stepfather Bruce Jenner dressed in women’s clothes

“I found out when I was… maybe 25 I had walked in on Caitlyn, my mom was out of town and I walked in on Caityln all dressed up, it was Bruce a dressed up as a women…

During an interview on The Alec Baldwin Show on Sunday the  30 Rock star recalled the time Bruce was the track coach at his daughter Ireland’s school.

“When I knew him and he was married to Kris and would take the girls to school there was not a drop of Caitlyn in him,’ Alec said referring to Bruce’s new identity, Caitlyn Jenner.

“When it happened I was “What?” not with any judgement I just did not see it coming.’ the 60-year-old actor added.

Kim also said when it happened she quickly packed her bags and ran out the room crying calling her sister Kourtney Kardashian on the phone asking to spend the night.

[MUSIC] 50 Cent Clowns Ashanti After Selling Only 24 Concert Tickets

[MUSIC] 50 Cent Clowns Ashanti After Selling Only 24 Concert Tickets

The ‘Foolish’ singer was expected to perform at Stony Brook University’s Back To Brook event later this month. But according to Bossip that show was drop after they sold just 24 tickets to the concert.

50 Cent took to Instagram and had this to say about the ‘Foolish’ singer after her show was forced to cancel due to low ticket sales.

“I thought I told everybody not to f**k with this fool, I want the names and socials of everybody who bought a ticket now,” he jokingly added.

With Fiddy’s feelings on Ashanti’s frequent collaborator Ja Rule, it’s pretty clear why he’s going in on her over Instagram. Whenever he has an opportunity to clown anyone who he’s not fond of, he’ll take it regardless of the context.

Stony Brook University released a statement after the show was cancelled “As an organization, we do our best to host programs for students while providing diversity and inclusion. However, we have struggled to execute certain aspects. With only a week before the concert, only 24 tickets were sold to students.”

The school went on to explain they had originally booked Teyana Taylor for the gig but she pulled out last minute,  leaving the organizers to scramble to properly promote Ashanti as the new headliner.

That’s embarrassing to sell that amount of tickets, it seems that people don’t want to pay to see Ashanti perform anymore, she’s almost forgotten as a performer. She hasn’t had a hit in a long time. However, Ashanti is currently working on a joint album with Ja Rule. Let’s hope she has better luck with album sales.

Leave a comment down below telling me your thoughts on Ashanti not selling. Is her career over?

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘A QUIET PLACE 2’ TO BE WRITTEN BY JOHN KRASINSKI

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘A QUIET PLACE 2’ TO BE WRITTEN BY JOHN KRASINSKI

John Krasinski has come a long way from being Jim Halpert in “The Office.” Not only has he starred in the Amazon show “Jack Ryan” but he wrote, directed and starred in this year’s hit movie “A Quiet Place.”

The small budget horror film, which focused on a family living in silence as they hide from monsters who hunt sound, grossed $332.5 million worldwide, so a sequel seemed inevitable. Now it’s official, and Krasinski is one again penning the script.

Do we really need another “Quiet Place?” I thought the first movie was enjoyable, but as I thought about it more and more, the less it made sense. That’s fine, because I was entertained in the packed theater, but I’m not sure it’s destined to be a classic like some have assumed.

It also ended in a way that seemed to wrap everything up (Emily Blunt’s shotgun cocking was affective, if not a little corny). Since John Krasinski won’t be able to appear in the sequel (I’m not getting blamed for spoiling it for you. It’s been out for months; why haven’t you seen it yet?) he seems to have a good enough idea — or have been offered a big enough paycheck — to return and scribe a sequel.

In all honestly, I’ll probably see “A Quiet Place 2” but will I like it? I’m skeptical. A mostly silent horror movie makes for some good jump scares and the characters were developed well enough I suppose, but I felt as though it was far from the best horror movie of the year. “Hereditary” was much more uncomfortable and thought provoking, but that’s not getting a sequel.

If you’ve seen “Hereditary” a sequel wouldn’t really make sense, but does a sequel to “A Quiet Place” really make sense? Is it just going to be Emily Blunt and the kids killing the monsters, now that they know their weakness? I bet it’ll intersplice flashbacks of the monsters’ rise to power in between Blunt shooting them, which could potentially be interesting, or it could be like any other apocalyptic monster movie ever made.

“A Quiet Place 2” is set to be released on May 15, 2020 but with no script, a delay in its release wouldn’t surprise me.

Are you excited for “A Quiet Place 2” or do you feel similarly to my thoughts on a sequel? Let me know in the comments below!

[ENTERTAINMENT] WHY THE HORMONE MONSTRESS IS THE BEST PART OF ‘BIG MOUTH’

[ENTERTAINMENT] WHY THE HORMONE MONSTRESS IS THE BEST PART OF ‘BIG MOUTH’

If you haven’t heard of Netflix’s animated series “Big Mouth” you might be missing out. The show, which released its second season earlier this month, the TV-MA cartoon focuses on a group of middle schoolers going through puberty. While, for the most part, the boys are visited by the Hormone Monster, a manifestation of their pubescent minds voiced by co-creator Nick Kroll, the girls are visited by the Hormone Monstress, voiced by Maya Rudolph. The Hormone Monstress is, without a doubt, the best part of the show.

These two characters, but especially the female Monstress, voice all of the kids innermost desires and their thoughts as they start going through puberty, so they’re often saying especially ridiculous things. “This boy is a tall lumpy dumpt drink of water and we are thirsty,” “Like Stanley Kowalski picking you up and thrusting you onto a kitchen counter like you ain’t nothing” and “because I don’t use deoterant and I only take bubble baths” are some of her best lines. On their own, they’re relatively amusing, but the way Rudolph changes her voice and enunciates random letters have me dying of laughter each episode.

The Hormone Monster and Monstress often meet to bargain sex between the kids they’re helping, much like a corporate boardroom. It’s ridiculous and overtly provocative, but the metaphor for teenager’s pubescent urges is prevalent and interestingly done.

While her pronounciation of “buhbble bahyth” is hysterical, I think the best moment of the series is when the Monstress convinces Jessie to shoplift from the pharmacy. She totally embodies the thoughts everyone’s had at least once, and the way she screams the F-word with emphasis on random, drawn out letters consistently kills me.

Of course, there are plenty of other reasons to watch “Big Mouth.” Kroll and John Mulaney are both also great as the boys (among other roles) and Coach Steve is the weirdest, most innpropriate gym/sex ed teacher in existance (he refers to sex as making “thick in the warm”). The show really is terribly innapropriate and tries to push the boandries as much as possible, but since it’s a cartoon, it’s more acceptable. It really accurately portrays kids minds as they start becoming adults while still being laugh out loud funny.

The first two seasons of “Big Mouth” are available to stream on Netflix right now.
