Sony Pictures Worldwide is releasing independent distributor A24’s summer film “Eighth Grade” internationally, as they plan for a full-fledged awards campaign.
The film follows Kayla through her last week of middle school. It’s a mundane, slice of life film that progresses slowly, but it places audiences directly in Kayla’s point-of-view. The plot is light and some have criticized the film as slow, but it’s an especially realistic look at modern public school.
Written and directed by Youtube star and comedian Bo Burnham, “Eighth Grade” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this past January, before playing the festival circuit until its theatrical release in July, grossing $13.5 million.
Since its release, many have questioned whether “Eighth Grade” would receive any award nominations. With the news that it will be released internationally, more people will have a higher chance of seeing the film, which would of course improve its chances comes awards season.

However, I’m still hard pressed to believe “Eighth Grade” will receive any major Oscar nominations. If anything, I could see it getting a Best Original Screenplay nomination for Burnham, due mostly to one especially amazing monologue towards the film’s conclusion. I still don’t think star Elsie Fisher will be nominated, nor do I predict it will be nominated for Best Picture.
I think the Independent Spirit Awards will be where “Eighth Grade” will flourish. While these are obviously less high-profile awards than the Academy Awards, they’re still prestigious, as recent winners include Frances McDormand, Timothee Chalamet and Jordan Peele.
Personally, I thought “Eighth Grade” was a brutally honest depiction of growing up in the modern age of social media, and regardless of whether it gets any Oscar nominations or not, I believe it’s definitely worth watching. It’s coming to Blu-Ray and DVD on October 9, and I strongly recommend checking it out.
Cary Joji Fukunaga has been selected as the next director of the upcoming twenty-fifth James Bond film.
Problems and controversies regarding the latest entry of the Bond franchise have surrounded the movie since before the previous 007 film, “Spectre” was even released.
Initially, star Daniel Craig said he was tired of playing Bond and wanted to turn the role over to someone else. Many became passionate about casting Idris Elba as the first black actor to play the spy, but that didn’t work out — at least not yet. Following months of contract negotiations, it was decided Craig would return for one final go-around as the famous British spy. According to BusinessInsider, the actor is being paid a reported $25 million to reprise his role.

After Sam Mendes, who directed the two most recent 007 films “Spectre” and “Skyfall,” dropped out of the upcoming movie, tentatively titled “Bond 25”, “Slumdog Millionaire” and “28 Days Later” director Danny Boyle took over the project. However, last month, it was reported that Boyle left the project as well over alleged creative differences.
“Bond 25” has found its new director in Cary Joji Fukunaga. Fukunaga, who recently helmed the much-acclaimed Netflix limited series “Maniac” released his first statement regarding his participation in “Bond 25” to Indiewire, saying he’s “wanted to do one of these for a long time.”
Fukunaga was catapulted to fame after directing all eight episodes of the first season of HBO’s “True Detective.” The gritty crime drama, which had a nearly 10 minute action sequence shot in one continuous take, marked his as one of Hollywood’s top directors. He was initially in charge of the feature adaptation of Stephen King’s “It” but after creative differences, he left the project and was replaced by Andy Muschietti.

“Bond 25” is set to be released on February 14, 2020.
The full trailer for “Dark Phoenix” debuted Thursday morning. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on HBO’s hit “Game of Thrones”, is playing the famous mutant Jean Grey in the lastest “X-Men” film.
The trailer promises a return of many former “X-Men” actors, including Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. The trio were the center of many rumors after “X-Men: Apocalypse” was released, saying that they wouldn’t be returning to the franchise unless they got significant pay raises. It looks like they got their salary increases, because the trio are prominently featured throughout the trailer.
The preview shows that as a child, Grey’s mutant abilities seem to cause a car crash that most likely kills her parents, making it immediately clear that she’s always had difficulty controlling her powers.
It looks likes Jean will be pairing up with “X-Men’s” most famous villain, Magneto, and turning against the X-Men, using her abilities to cause mass destruction.
Professor X seems to be taking the responsibility for Jean, and it’s up to him and his fellow mutants to stop her before she signals the end of the world.
Jessica Chastain also appears in the trailer. According to the press release, she’s playing an extraterrestrial being.

The main storyline isn’t completely new to “X-Men” fans, as Grey’s powers and eventual demise were explored heavily in “X-Men: The Last Stand.” Is it worth revisiting when there are so many storylines in the “X-Men” universe to choose from.
With Disney’s Fox deal going through, it seems as though this will be Twentieth Century Fox’s last go at the X-Men franchise before it reverts to Marvel.
Are you excited for “Dark Phoenix” or are you more excited for the X-Men to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
“Dark Phoenix” will hit theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019.
I am sure you have all probably heard Jacquees ‘Trip’ remix, which he is calling a ‘Quemix’, and if you haven’t you’ve missed out on a great song that puts you even more in your feels than Ella Mai’s original version.
The re-make was so popular it received more attention than Mai’s official song. Unfortunately, Jacquees was sent a cease and desist letter for the remix due to its outperformance and he has since been forced to remove the song off of both YouTube and SoundCloud. The singer shared the news on twitter after reposting an article about how he must remove the song from his social media platforms. The singer then proceeded to quote tweet the article with a number of teary eyed emojis to portray how sad he is about the removal.
There have been several rumors regarding whether or not Jacquee’s has been making profit off of the remix and if Ella Mai is the one who personally sent the letter of cease and desist to the fellow artist. The rumors though were soon dispelled after two social media altercations occurred putting all the rumors to rest. The first one being when T-Pain suggested that the young artist might have been looking to make a quick bag off of Mai’s song, Que swiftly responded stating “N*gga no I didn’t lol hell you talm bout my brother I put it on SoundCloud and YouTube you know my game ain’t cap I love Ella”. DJ Mustard also commented on the altercation in order to defend his artist, stating ” I’m just tired of people picking on Ella”. Mustard posted a picture on his Instagram starting off by saying “Our artists don’t send cease and desists, we do”. See below for the full post.
So there you have it folks, Ella was not the one who forced her friend to take his ‘Quemix’ down. Jacquee’s team has sent a statement to billboard expressing that there is no bad blood between the two artist and they even see a collaboration for the two in the near future. I am sure that collaboration will be fire! Comment down below if that’s a collaboration that will make it on to your playlist or not.

The witches are back! But there’s a whole episode to discuss before I can get to that.

Episode 3 starts with Langdon (Cody Fern) interviewing everyone about coming to the sanctuary. He wraps up most of last week’s cliff-hangers by revealing that Timothy and Emily are okay and Evan Peters is off the hook for Joan Collins’ murder. He also admits he’s not looking to take “good” people with him to rebuild the earth.
Did we just see the Devil in true form? When trying to intimidate Mallory (Billie Lourd), Langdon morphs his face into that of a scarred old man, almost like a nosed Voldemort, but Mallory somehow causes the fireplace to spit flames and telepathically tosses Landgon to the ground. Obviously this means she’s a witch, but we’ll get to that later.
This interaction seems to creep Langdon out, who prays to the Devil in a séance, cutting himself and summoning snakes in a pentagram drawn in blood until his eyes go pitch black, presumably possessed.
Outpost’s resident robot Ms. Mead (Kathy Bates) talks about what she thought were her memories including her first kill, a ridiculously violent domestic fight, with Ms. Venable (Sarah Paulson). Mead suggests they try to find the sanctuary themselves.
We get out first look at the survivors of the nuclear fallout. It’s a grey sandy waterfront wasteland. Brock (Billy Eichner) was somehow able to survive the bombing, and shows up to go all “Mad Max” on some cannibals in his attempt to find Coco. He sees Langdon’s carriage and secretly hitches a ride on it.

The carriage arrives at the Outpost and once Brock sneaks off, it’s empty except for a case of somehow still ripe apples. Mead and Venable find the fruit and devise a plan to inject them with poison and serve them at a Halloween party.
Coco (Leslie Grossman) is as vapid as ever as she gets ready for the masquerade ball with Evan Peters. She taunts Mallory, who tries to talk with them about what happened with Langdon. I thought Coco would regret making fun of Mallory, but she didn’t have the chance to, because in her next scene, she’s offering to toss who she thinks is Langdon’s salad and goes off into a room with him. Much to her surprise it’s Brock, who thanks to a party mask, gets the perfect opportunity to stab Coco in the brain.
After making the party guests bob for apples, Venable and Mead watch over as everyone’s poisoned. The “Snow White” and Adam and Eve with the forbidden fruit parallels aren’t exactly subtle in this scene, but it’s insanely menacing and twisted.
When they go to confront Langdon, he’s able to somehow make Mead turn the gun on her friend, shooting Ms. Venable in the throat. When Mead questions why she did that, Langdon explains to her that it’s all been part of his grand plan. He doesn’t like getting his hands dirty and preferred everyone turn on each other. It looks like the Antichrist just got a robotic henchwomen.
Right after Sarah Paulson’s first death of the season, she returns as “Coven” Supreme Witch Cordelia Foxx, alongside the third season’s Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) and Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy), also reprising their roles as witches. They strut out of the fog and into Outpost, where they round up the bodies of their fellow witches to bring them back to life.

Much to my surprise, in addition to Mallory, they also bring back Coco and Adina Porter, meaning all three of them have been witches this whole time. This actually clarifies a conversation Adina Porter had with Langdon during her interview, where they said they’d interacted before. She told him that she’s not powerful enough to stop him alone, but now she’s got at least five other witches by her side.
Madison leans over Mallory’s newly resurrected body and says what has become her catchphrase “Surprise bitch. I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”
I have mixed feeling about this episode. Obviously the witches’ entrance was amazing, Langdon’s interrogation montage was creepy and Ms. Mead’s backstory was good old fashion “AHS” (even if it seemed inspired by “Westworld”) but excluding those sequences, I wasn’t as in love with this episode as the previous two.
The whole thing felt a little rushed and I can’t buy Billy Eichner as some post-apocalyptic badass. Since Timothy and Emily are dead, why was so much of the first two episodes wasted on their chracters? Thankfully, Ryan Murphy has already confirmed that Tate from “Murder House” is coming back, so we haven’t seen the last of Evan Peters this season.
The preview for next week’s episode promises a focus on the Coven, and judging by Langdon’s shorter hair in the trailer, I’m guessing it’s going to be a flashback to the witches trying to intervene before the apocalypse, possibly with Adina Porter by their side. Thw question I need answered is how Myrtle and Madison, who were burnt at the stake and strangled by the end of “Coven” are back. I’m guessing Cordelia travelled to Hell to bring them back to try to save the world, but we’ll have to wait another week to find out.
Make sure to check back next week for Episode 3’s recap of “American Horror Story: Apocalypse.”
