[ENTERTAINMENT] [NEWS] JESSE WILLIAMS GIVES AN APOLOGY

[ENTERTAINMENT] [NEWS] JESSE WILLIAMS GIVES AN APOLOGY

Jesse Williams, most known for his role as Jackson on Greys Anatomy, has been under heat this past week due to a series of posts on his Instagram page and twitter.

In promoting his upcoming film he’ll be producing about the struggles of Emmett Till’s family, the actor used a number of gifs of what seemed to be a parody of the Colin Kaepernick’s Nike Ad. A few of the photos included Mamie Till Mobley, Emmett Tills mother, crying over her sons casket, and one of her and Till smiling. The pictures all accompanied the caption “Believe in something Even if it means sacrificing everything”, the same caption from Kaepernick’s ad, along with “Till coming soon” at the bottom.

The posts did not get the reaction the Grey’s star expected. Unfortunately the posts left individuals angered and offended. Many felt the star was using Till’s mothers grief for promotional reasons and taking it as a joke, in others words being completely insensitive. According to E Online one twitter user stated “This is probably the worst thing you could’ve done here,” and another from Kristian Winfield stating “whoever told Jesse Williams this was a good idea….”.

This prompted Williams to come out with an apology stating “I would absolutely never make light of the tremendous tragedy that foisted Mamie Till Mobley into her life of activism and could never pretend her child being brutally tortured and executed was her ‘sacrifice’. That doesn’t even kinda make sense, never mind being absurd and ahistorical”. Read the full apology below.

The movie is set to begin filming next summer, and will be c0-produced by Whoopi Goldberg. I personally am very excited for this film and believe the art used by Williams was not in any way intended to be offensive, but instead showed great creativity, and portrayed the sacrifices Mamie Till made after her son was brutally murdered. Unfortunately as Williams put it in his apology “every swing ain’t gonna be a homerun”. Comment down below what you thought of the promotional art and if you found it offensive.

[ENTERTAINMENT] DIDDY’S BLACK 100 LIST

[ENTERTAINMENT] DIDDY’S BLACK 100 LIST

Earlier this week Diddy created what he is calling his Black 100 list which has many people questioning and discussing the Bad Boy Entertainment CEO’s logic.

The entertainment mogul included individuals from a wide range of fields including politicians, actors, journalists, musicians, athletes and many more. The list was created in order to exhibit individuals who have cultivated black culture and inspired the artist. Some of the names included former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, choreographer Laurieann Gibson, Actress Gabrielle Union and her basketball player husband Dwayne Wade, as well as music moguls Jay Z and Beyoncé. The list did not end there.  Diddy portrayed a wide range of prominent names in the industry, but not everyone included happened to be black.

Readers showed their confusion after stumbling upon names like Khloe Kardashian, Machine Gun Kelly, Mark Wahlberg, and Post Malone, demanding to know what exactly the criteria to make the cut was. The readers concerns continued and they did not hesitate to let the mogul know who he forget and who he should have left off. According to Billboard the 48 year old has something big planned after a series of Instagram uploads that indicated something is coming. The rapper wrote on one of the posts “Culture creators, I have something special for you”.

While many cant wait for the big surprise and news, Diddy is going to need to explain this one and how exactly he came up with who is on the list. Comment down below who you believe should have made the cut and who should be taken off.

[ENTERTAINMENT] DOES MEL GIBSON DESERVE FORGIVENESS?

[ENTERTAINMENT] DOES MEL GIBSON DESERVE FORGIVENESS?

It was announced today that Mel Gibson is directing a remake of “The Wild Bunch” which has led many to wonder why the famously anti-Semetic and violent former-Hollywood-heavyweight is being given another chance to rebuild his career, in spite of his past.

Comedian Sarah Silverman took to Twitter to remind her followers about one of Gibson’s quotes.

While being arrested for driving under the influence in 2006, Gibson famously made anti-semetic remarks to the officer arresting him. Here’s a news clip from 2006 detailing it:

This caused Gibson to be mostly blacklisted from Hollywood, not asked to star or direct in anything and the butt of many jokes.

In 2010, Gibson’s at the time girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, recorded and released some of their phone calls, where Gibson cursed her out, admitting to breaking her teeth because she “deserved it” and using horrific racial slurs. Here’s one of the conversations:

That seemed as though it was the final nail in the “Braveheart” star’s coffin. However, he started working on smaller, low profile movies like Jodie Foster’s “The Beaver” and “Machete Kills” slowly making his way back into the Hollywood landscape. His first high profile directing gig since the new scandal, “Hacksaw Ridge” was critically lauded and earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Director. After that, he took a supporting role in “Daddy’s Home 2” and it was official, Mel Gibson had returned. And now he’s getting the high profile directing gig of a “Wild Bunch” remake.

With the #MeToo movement still going strong, why is Gibson able to return? Was almost decade long “blacklisting” enough of a punishment? Should he be celebrated for his artistic visions, or even forgiven at all? With problematic directors like Woody Allen finally “taking a break” from making movies after rumors have surrouded him for decades, why is Gibson allowed to return?

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD’ TRAILER REVEALS MORE HOGWARTS

[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD’ TRAILER REVEALS MORE HOGWARTS

The final trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” shows a young Dumbledore and more of the famous wizarding school Hogwarts.

I grew up on “Harry Potter” but I didn’t love 2016’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” I felt like it was too light, the plot was forced and the whole thing seemed unnecessary. To make matters worse, the one character I actually liked in the prequel, played by Colin Farrell, transformed into the very problematic Johnny Depp at the end. After struggling to finish the first “Fantastic Beasts” I wasn’t looking forward to its sequel “The Crimes of Grindelwald.” That all changed when I saw this trailer, which has me thinking it might actually be pretty good.

As the title suggests, this movie will focus on Grindelwald, who for casual fans can be considered the Original Voldemort, played by Depp. In the original “Harry Potter” books and movies, allusions were made to Dumbledore’s battle with Grindelwald when they were younger. It looks like we’ll be seeing their conflicts, as “The Young Pope” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley” star Jude Law. I expect this will make this sequel seem more necessary and worth watching.

The trailer also teases “Fantastic Beasts 1” costars including Eddie Redmaye and Katherine Waterston will return, but hopefully in smaller doses. Scenes also take place in Hogwarts. For people whose childhoods were filled with “Harry Potter” the school is always great to see. After the first “Fantastic Beasts” didn’t have any scenes in the castle, I feel like returning to Hogwarts will be worth the price of a theater ticket.

The story is definitely going to be dark, and it’s interesting that these prequels are mostly focussing on adults, after the original eight movies featured children as they grew up.

Even though I know, in broad strokes, the story of Grindelwald I think, and hope, that “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” will be an improvement over the first “Harry Potter” prequel.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” will hit theaters on November 16.
