With Summer around the corner and businesses slowly opening up, it is safe to say that Hollywood is almost ready to get back on track, and no actor is more excited than Colin Farrell. In an interview with GMA News, Collin Farrell talked about his excitement of being part of a world he grew up with:
“It’s all exciting. To be a part of that universe and just there are certain words that are part of my internal lexicon: Gotham City, Penguin, Joker, Batman, Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent, all these things. Tim Burton’s Batman was kind of my, no, I watched the Adam West TV show growing up actually as well. So Batman as a kid, yes very much, not in comic book form but the TV show I watched ardently when I was a child. And then in my teens, I saw Burton’s version and loved it.”
Colin Farrell was cast to play the penguin back in 2019, for the upcoming The Batman. The Batman is set to take place in the same universe as Man of Steel and Wonder Woman, as we see a younger cape crusader. Despite appearing before in Batman v Superman and Justice League (Played by Ben Affleck), this would be the first solo appearance since the Nolan Trilogy, a feat that Colin knows all too well.
“And then obviously I was a huge fan of what Chris Nolan did with that world and how he brought it back to life and gave it an immediacy and a contemporary significance. So just to be part of, again that folklore, that mythology, is again really cool.”
The Dark Knight Trilogy is hailed as one of the best stories of all time, with The Dark Knight being hailed as one of, if not the best superhero film of all time. Taking over a property with the legacy of Batman is a no small task. However, director Matt Reeves seems to be up for the task.
Matt Reeves was given rein of The Batman film after former writer and Director Ben Affleck dropped out due to personal issues. However, Affleck highly approved of Matt Reeves, taking over the movie after Reeves finished the Planet of the Apes Trilogy. With Reeves taking over, the original script, along with any early casting was changed, however, the original premise of the movie stayed the same, with The Batman telling the story of a younger Batman fighting crime in Gotham City. The first news of casting shock the internet community, as it was revealed that none other than Robert Patterson was cast to play the iconic role of Batman.
Following other casting rumor and confirmations, Colin Farrell was cast to play the Penguin. While no real details where given to how big the role is, Colin Farrell did promise some “Tasty Scenes,” he also shared how excited he is to go back to film:
“I had only started it and I can’t wait to get back. The creation of it, the aesthetic of the character, has been fun and I really am so excited to get back and explore it. And I haven’t got that much to do. I have a certain amount in the film. I am not all over it by any means. But there are a couple of some tasty scenes I have in it and my creation and I can’t wait to get back. Yeah, I totally feel like it is something that I have not had the opportunity to explore before. It feels original and fun. But I am only at the start of the journey so I can’t wait to get back and really get into it.”
Farrell seems to confirm that he is not meant to be a big player in the movie, but that doesn’t mean that his influence won’t be felt. The Penguin, outside of being one of the biggest mobsters in the city, he is also a business owner, in charge of his club. The Iceberg Lounge could appear, and it could be used to host villain meetings. There could even be a fight scene in the club itself. The last time that the Penguin appeared in the live-action movie was Danny DeVito’s iconic portrayal in Batman Return.
What do you guys think, are excited to see the Penguin make his long-awaited return to the big screen? The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, is set to release October 1, 2021, starring Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Paul Dano.
Ever since debuting in theaters plays in 2016, Hamilton has gathered a reputation for being one of the best plays ever performed. Hamilton is about the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States. The play was praised for its unique portrayal of the historical figure, along with the mixture of modern music to help the play stand out.
Despite being well praised, the play was also notorious for being expensive and hard to obtain tickets. As a response, Disney promises a theatrical release of the play, in order to reach a wider audience. Fans waited for years for more news on the release. After Disney+ was launched, the initial idea was that the play would air in theaters, and then make its way to the streaming service.
However, with the current pandemic, theater, have halted all airs, and while businesses are slowly opening their doors, it will take a while before people feel safe going to mass gatherings. Lin-Manuel Miranda posted on his official Twitter that Hamilton will skip theaters altogether, and instead, it will arrive on Disney+ on July 3.
While not the most surprising move, skipping theaters, follow the same path that Trolls 2 did, by debuting digitally the same day that it premiered in theaters. As we reported with Troll 2, movies moving to straight digital releases seemed to be the next step forward in the way we consume our entertainment.
This movement is not without growing pains as AMC and Universal exchanged strong words on Twitter, resulting in AMC banning the future airing of any Universal property.
HBO has always been one the best providers of premium television, providing some of the best shows ever made, such as Oz, and Game of Thrones. Despite one offering programming from their HBO line up, HBO GO and HBO NOW have maintained two of the best streaming services around. However, with the rise of Disney+, Warner Media. announced that they would launch HBO Max a streaming service that brings together programing from other branches of Warner Bro Media, including Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, and HBO.
The streaming service promises new programming, including a new season of Boondocks. Another selling point is the complete library of Friends episode along with South Park, and Rick and Morty. HBO Max was expected to come out this year, but it went silent as Disney+ started gaining traction. However, with recent global events, Warner Media, announced that HBO Max would officially debut next month on May 27.
In an official announced an HBO representative announce, “Our number one goal is having extraordinary content for everyone in the family, and the HBO Max programming mix we are so excited to unveil on May 27th will bear that out,” Robert Greenblatt, chairman of WarnerMedia entertainment and direct-to-consumer, said in a statement. “Even in the midst of this unprecedented pandemic, the all-star teams behind every aspect of HBO Max will deliver a platform and a robust slate of content that is varied, of the highest quality, and second to none.”
HBO Max, it set to debut on May 27, with a price tag of $14.99. The price tag might seem a little steep compared to Disney +, but keep in mind that Disney Plus does include a bundle for $12.99 which includes both Hulu and ESPN. While two dollars less than HBO Max, the library still doesn’t compare, with most of Hulu’s programming also tied behind other paywalls.
I believe that HBO Max is the most bang for your buck, the amount of content will rival that of Disney+ without the family-friendly restrictions.
One of James Gunn’s signature staples is the music he implements on his movies. His use of 80s and 90s rock and hip hop has become one of the best things to look forward to when he releases a movie. The songs go so well with every scene that you can’t imagine the scene being pulled off without the music.
With Jame Gunn working of both Suicide Squad 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3, fans can’t wait to see what music he’ll bring to the table. James Gunn recently took to Twitter to reveal that as perfect as the soundtracks for both Guardians 1 & 2, there were songs that were left on the cutting room floor.
Both. Livin’ Thing & Magic were both in scenes cut from Vol 1. She’s Gone was in the script for Vol. 2 but that scene was cut before we shot. Wichita Lineman & Mama Told Me Not to Come were almost used where Moonage Daydream is in the 1st film (cont’d) – https://t.co/1dpzDReKcthttps://t.co/snef4L5ehT
The soundtrack for both movies, also known as “Awesome Mix vol 1 & 2,” both playlists have some fantastic songs such as “Hooked on a Feeling,” by Blue Swede, and “Fox on the Run,” by Sweet. However, according to Gunn “Livin’ Thing,” was cut from the movies.
(M Daydream was the only song not in that script). Flashlight was almost the song Baby Groot danced to at the beginning of Vol 2. New York Groove was used in a scene cut from Infinity War.
While it is interesting to see what didn’t make the cut, none of these songs affected the overall movies, which have grossed a combined grossed a total estimate of 1.6 billion. What is interesting is that Gunn said that some of these songs might still appear in Guardians vol 3.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is set to release August 6, 2021. The day is still set despite the current Pandemic. What do you guys think, what song would you like to see in Guardians vol 3?
Marvel is usually great at keeping things close to the chest, when a movie gets announce details such as casting and directing are usually kept secrete until Comic-Con or other events. However, when it comes to the upcoming Doctor Strange 2, things could not be any more open. After it was confirmed back in 2018, the movie went silent until Marvel released its new official timeline for the next phase of their cinematic universe. Doctor Strange 2 was officially renamed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The movie is set to come out next year, characters from the original movie are set to return, the only question was who is going to direct it?
(Newscom TagID: admphotos117865)
Rumors quickly started to spread that the movie was going to be directed by Sam Raimi and that the movie was going to be more of a cosmic horror style of movie. Sam Raimi is no stranger to either superhero movies or horror genre. Sam Raimi first gain fame after creating the cult classic Evil Dead movies. In the early 2000s, he became a household name after writing and directing the original Spider-man trilogy.
In an interview, while talking about Spider-man 2, Sam Raimi dropped a hint, “When we had that moment in the Spider-Man movie, I had no idea we’d be making a Doctor Strange movie. So it was really funny to me also, coincidentally that line was in the first Spider-Man movie… I wish I had the foresight to know I was going to be involved in the project!” While not flat out stating that he is directing, Sam Raimi pretty much confirms that he is involved in the project. Marvel, nor Raimi has made an official statement, but all the rumors seem to confirm Raimi as the director.
What do you guys think, what kind of movie would Sam Raimi make if given the chance? More importantly, how would Bruce Campbell be put into the movie?
