According to Forbes, Jay Z has recently become the first billionaire hip hop artist. Totaling all of Jay Z’s income from his involvement in the recording industry, liquor, art and more, the magazine conservatively estimates that his net worth $1 billion.
Unlike other Forbes reports on celebrities total earnings, this report breaks down that $1 billion into Jay’s various ventures.
Apart from amassing $75 million for his music catalogue, Jay Z holds a $310 million stake in his luxury champagne brand Armand de Brignac, and another $100 million in his cognac brand U’Esse.
The Brooklyn rapper sold his clothing line Rocawear for $204 million in 2007 and his cash portfolio holds $220 million, which includes a $70 million investment in Uber.
And as mentioned, Jay Z is known for his extensive art collection, which is estimated to be worth $120 million.
Congrats to Hova…I imagine it won’t take another 49 years to reach $2 billion.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged R Kelly with 11 additional counts of sexual misconduct and all against one alleged victim, who was reportedly under the age of 18. That brings the total amount of charges against R Kelly to 21.
In 2008, R Kelly went to court in 2008 for sexual abuse but was acquitted. However this January, Lifetime released the six-part film “Surviving R Kelly”, which details the accusations of sexual abuse by several women against the singer. Interest in his case resurfaced after the film’s release, and R Kelly was arrested for 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse against four women, three of whom were underage at the time.
His attorney, Chicago lawyer Steve Greenburg, released a statement to the Tribune regarding the new charges: ““We’ll see what it is, and we’ll deal with it accordingly”.

Lil Nas X has been on fire recently with his hit “Old Town Road” topping the Billboard charts for eight weeks. On Tuesday, he revealed the cover art for his upcoming album 7 along with more details.
“8 songs will be on the EP! NEXT MONTH,” he wrote of the project’s June release date. “I’m tryna make a visualizer (video) for every song on the ep and tryna work with upcoming animators on each one.”
The cover art features Lil Nas X on horseback, approaching a large, futuristic city. I take this to mean how he is planning on mixing hip hop and country music, just like “Old Town Road”.
Previously, Lil Nas X had teased fake cover art which was a reference to Drake’s legendary mixtape Nothing was the Same.
Cardi B is attempting to make some more money moves. After an impressive run of a record Grammy’s performance and a new baby, Cardi B has filed for a trademark for the name “Bocktails with Cardi B”, according to TMZ. The website reports that the show is for “entertainment services in the nature of providing ongoing episodes for distribution via television and the Internet featuring celebrities and artists.”
From what I can ascertain, this sounds like a show with Cardi being joined by various celebrities, drinking. I’m sure there will be more to it even if I’m right about the drinking part: games, activities, and scenarios while drunk.
The trademark did not stop at a television show, though. There will also be a roll-out of “clothing, including shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, hats, caps, footwear, skirts, dresses, blouses, sweaters, pants and shorts.”
And as expected, Cardi B wants the name for “alcoholic beverages, except beer and beverages containing beer.”
