[Music] ‘Acid Rap’ Turns Six Years Old Today

Six years ago, a Chicago kid named Chancellor Bennett released his second mixtape, Acid Rap, and the rest is history. Chance The Rapper created one of the most iconic and critically acclaimed records of the 21st century and today we celebrate its existence.

Chance, then a relative unknown, followed up his first mixtape 10 Day with a drug induced sound, utilizing his raspy voice and creative production team to make an incredible, innovative record. The thing that makes Acid Rap such a triumph, is that it is so uniquely original it became immensely clear that Chance was destined to be a star.

The tape features a bevy of collaborators, most of whom were relatively unknown, or at least not nearly as popular as they are now. Childish Gambino, Noname, Saba, Vic Mensa and Action Bronson all stopped by to record a feature on the mixtape. When a project is filled with features there is typically a good chance that some of them are lost in the midst of everything else happening on the record, but on Acid Rap each guest on their respective track really makes their time memorable.

Chance follow Acid Rap with his most recent mixtape, Coloring Book. Released in 2015, Coloring Book was a diversion from the acid induced sound, and instead exchanged for a fusion of gospel, jazz and rap music. While the projects sound quite different, it’s a testament of the talent and artistry Chance possesses, and his ability to create new and exciting projects. He announced earlier this year, that his debut studio album will be released some time during July of 2019.

Bump some Acid Rap today, and let us hope that Chance continues to pump out classics. What is your favorite track? Leave a comment below and let us know.

[Music] Kendrick Lamar signs new publishing deal with BMI

[Music] Kendrick Lamar signs new publishing deal with BMI

Grammy Award-winning, Kendrick Lamar has signed a publishing deal with Broadcast Music Inc. to represent his music catalog. The company features over 900,000 songwriters, including Top Dawg Entertainment label-mates SZA, Jay Rock, and Schoolboy Q.

The EVP of BMI’s Creativity and Licensing released a press statement on Monday, related to the signing of Kendrick: “We’re thrilled to welcome Kendrick to the BMI family and expand our great working relationship with Top Dawg Entertainment and its incredibly talented roster. Kendrick’s gift for writing and performing such stunningly impactful music has solidified his stature among the world’s greatest artists and, without a doubt, as a major force in our industry for many years to come. We’re honored that he has chosen BMI to represent his creative works.”

Kendrick is certainly a gifted writer, as he is considered one of rap’s greatest lyricists and has even won a Pulitzer Prize. His writing should be protected and archived at all costs.

Previously, Kendrick was with Warner/Chappell Music.

[News] Lil Xan to take a break from Instagram

[News] Lil Xan to take a break from Instagram

In a recent Instagram post, Lil Xan announced that he will be taking a break from Instagram. The caption was, “sad, mad, confused. I Love you guys no matter what tho and to all the haters feel free to use me as a punching bag for your own insecurities, going mia for awhile, need to get away from the devil (social media) but if you see me on the street say wassup”.

Ever since he burst onto the Soundcloud rap scene, Lil Xan has been a controversial artist that has gotten more than his fair share of social media abuse. He has been outspoken about the abuse and the adverse effects it has had on him. For that reason, I don’t find him calling social media “the devil” to be extreme at all. To him, that must be the reincarnation of Lucifer, or at least a breeding ground for them.

It’s been a rough couple months for Lil Xan. He checked into rehab late last year and his girlfriend Annie supposedly had a miscarriage. The two almost broke up since Lil Xan thought that it was faked, and the current status of the relationship is unclear. Let’s hope things turn around for the “Betrayed” rapper.

[Music] Russ kicked out of Las Vegas club

[Music] Russ kicked out of Las Vegas club

Russ was kicked out of the club at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Saturday night. He was scheduled to perform but only after a few minutes into his set, started going on a rant against the venue because of technical difficulties.

Russ tweeted after the fact, ““Sorry to the fans that came out. Like I said on stage, I wasn’t gonna let the venue fuck up the show repeatedly without sayin something to y’all who paid money, waited etc..they didn’t like me calling them out. Like i also said, they’ll tell a different story but y’all saw 🤷🏽‍♂️😞.”

Fans at the show are supporting Russ on Twitter and confirm his side of the story. However, according to The Blast, Russ and his crew arrived with faulty microphones and after the club scrambled to find replacements, Russ wouldn’t stop being difficult.

It’s not clear who exactly is at fault but it’s likely it will become evident who is really to blame for this fiasco. In any case, Russ has stated that he will be back to Vegas, but not performing at a club.

[Music] Woodstock 50 Has Been Cancelled

[Music] Woodstock 50 Has Been Cancelled

Billboard is reporting that Woodstock’s 50th anniversary festival will no longer be happening. The festival was initially set for mid-August, but due to production issues, the shows must be cancelled.

“As a result and after careful consideration, Dentsu Aegis Network’s Amplifi Live, a partner of Woodstock 50, has decided to cancel the festival.  As difficult as it is, we believe this is the most prudent decision for all parties involved,” as per the statement issued to Billboard.

The festival lineup was pretty stacked with headliners including The Killers, Dead and Co., and Jay-Z. Other notable artists that were suppose to be featured during the show were Miley Cyrus, Chance The Rapper, The Black Keys, Halsey, Earl Sweatshirt, Maggie Rogers, Leon Bridges, Run The Jewels, and many more.

The festival representatives were concerned about capacity issues with the venue. No tickets were sold in advance due to the problems with setting up the logistics of the whole event.

As of now, the entire festival is dead. A lot of money has been put into getting performers to sign onto the show, so there may be something else that comes from this news. If more information comes to the front, we will provide an update accordingly.
