IS SZA DONE WITH MUSIC…AGAIN?

Sza’s 2017 album Ctrl was no doubt her best work. She calls the project “the best music of her life”. The album ended up being a huge success, exceeding her expectations. This is why Sza suggests that her new album will be her last.

Sza told Flaunt “I’m still miserable. My world got so much smaller so fast. I have so much to write about. I feel like I’m in a cage. I’m making the best album of my life for this next album and I know that…because it’s going to be my last album.”

But I don’t think we should get too sad being that Sza has played with the idea of an early retirement when she was frustrated with the delay of her album.

She also gave an interview to Complex in 2016 saying that Ctrl would be her last album. She said she had hoped to get into film. It looks like the success of her last album made her want to test her abilities and push her limits.

“God didn’t give me the Grammys, because he knows I would have quit, like “I have nothing else to do”, she said to Flaunt.

Keep going til’ you get that Grammy Sza. We ain’t mad at you!

[NEWS] STUDENTS PROTESTING GUN LAWS- WEDNESDAY’S WALKOUT

Students are taking it into their own hands now to stand up to the system. Due to the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida, which took the lives of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, students walked out of their classrooms for 17 minutes to protest to honor those lives.

There have been around 30 mass shootings in 2018 and it is only March. It seems like, after another headline, there is a new one waiting to make the news. It has gotten legitimately ridiculous to turn a blind eye against what is happening in the United States, but no gun control laws have been passed at the federal level. It has gotten to the point where we need to start having protests to make it clear to the government that we will not stand for this type of neglect.

On March 14th, 2018 students finally had enough of being silenced. There were 3130 walkouts are scheduled across the country and students all stood their ground. A lot of schools allowed their students to peacefully protest, and some teachers even walked out with them.

But some schools threatened suspension or other punishments, for what? All these students are doing is protesting their right not to get shot in school. School has become the breeding ground for hate and if one doesn’t think it can happen to them, they are mistaken. Shootings are getting way too common for us to make that statement anymore.

The students that organized the March For Our Lives put out a statement that read,

“To the parents supporting their children walking out, thank you for raising this new generation of leaders. To the parents who didn’t support their children who walked out anyway, thank you for raising this new generation of leaders.”

Here are some pictures of the students who participated in the walk-out:

I hope that gun laws can change soon so kids can go to school for an education and not be distracted by literally being shot. The government needs to humble itself down and realize that these gun laws are doing more harm than good. Even though it is a right, it is just too big of a threat. Hopefully there will be more walkouts that I can participate in. We have to fight for what is right and hopefully we can see change this year before it’s too late.

RED SPARROW DOES NOT SOAR

Red Sparrow was being teased to be one of the biggest movies of 2018. Starring Jennifer Lawrence and directed by Francis Lawrence, the story centers around a Russian spy turned covert intelligence agent in the thriller.

Check out the trailer here:

What we see in the trailer is a suspenseful movie filled with twists as Jennifer Lawrence depicts a character that goes outside her comfort zone as an actress. From the trailer we could except the main character to be worn down with psychological manipulation until she loses her sense of self. But what we get is none of that.

The movie is based on the 2013 novel by former CIA operative Jason Matthews. The movie is sexually charged but at times it gets rather uncomfortable from the scenes of assassination, torture and attempted rape. The rape scenes were horrific and not really well done. It was shocking to see it on such a large screen and I felt like most of the time it didn’t have to be depicted that brutally- and frequently. One wants to come out of the theater satisfied with the movie they watched, but some of the scenes made me want to walk out. Also in the movie, Lawrence gets deported to a “whore school” and the scenes are not really that great even though it is supposed to set up the tone for the entire movie. It really just adds time to the already long movie, so it should have just been shortened. How many times are you going to show an uncomfortable sex scene for us to get the point?

The movie is also way too long. It had several scenes that should have been cut because the main point already got across. I don’t know why they had so many scenes at the pool? Also, it made it very easy to lose interest. It was so long and confusing that you didn’t really want to stick around for the whole picture. I understand wanting to show the whole picture in its entirety but two and a half hours is a long time especially when the plot is almost never advancing and when it does, it is confusing. I couldn’t help but be glued to the screen for every single detail that went on so I could depict what was going on. I think I spaced out for two minutes and lost half of what was going on.

Matthias Schoenaerts plays her leering Uncle Vanya, and he pimps his niece out, which is a lovely thing to do. The viewer doesn’t even really know why he is doing it in the first place. Then she goes to America and falls in love with an American CIA operative named Nate Nash, which you don’t even know why they have crossed paths in the first place. Make sure you pay attention to their dialogue because I could barely understand it. I think Vulture says it best, “the script is so convoluted.”

When the ending scene finally happens, almost no one understands how the events lead to it. Until the movie flashes back to multiple scenes where Lawrence is setting up the enemy. In a good movie, everyone can understand the ending of the movie without the help of flashbacks. Then when you get the explanation you don’t even clearly understand how she did it. Don’t ask the person sitting next to you what’s happening because they don’t know either.

Overall Jennifer Lawrence was great in this movie and really saved it from being absolutely horrible. Or I might have a bias because she is one of my favorite actresses but the movie falls short. I feel if you have a really long confusing movie, there should be a lot of scenes that grab the audience’s attention to make them think, but this movie only has a couple stand out scenes. One walks away from almost a three-hour movie with no gratification for even watching it. If you’re thinking of watching this movie, stay home and hopefully it is not nominated for any undeserving awards.

IF YOU HATE MUMBLE RAP- YOU WILL LOVE HOPSIN

Hopsin is American rapper as well as a record producer, director and actor. He is an independent rapper who isn’t afraid to speak his mind on tracks. Wearing white contacts for his stage persona, he isn’t the typical rapper that talks about hoes and money, but someone who brings light to important societal issues that are so prevalent, but no one is willing to change it.

Just check out his best work, “ILL MIND OF HOPSIN 5:”

He brings light to the fact that society is brainwashing us to comply. By rapping, he releases his inner turmoil and frustration of the state of the world today. Hopsin did not have an easy come up. He dropped out of high school to pursue a career in music and worked hard to maintain true to the rapper he is today.

Mumble rappers these days seem to be doing everything he is against. They stick to cheap ways to get their song famous by making a fool of themselves to get publicity. People claim that it takes very little talent to do this, but they are getting a huge amount of fame with very little to no lyrics. People who support traditional rap have a lot to say about this new trend, and none of them are practically happy.

Hopsin is a known hater of mumble rap and he released a video for his song, “No Words” back in 2015, when mumble rap was just on the brink of getting big. (I wonder how he feels now?)

Check out the hilarious, “No Words” here:

He raps,

Man, rap today fucking sucks bad, I don’t give a fuck what anybody says
These fools ain’t spittin’ no type of dope shit, but that’s not even the bad part; they’re not even saying words anymore
They just got a hard-ass fuckin’ beat to trick dumb-asses like you to make you think you like the shit
Play that fuckin’ beat!
We got some real fuckin’ mentally retarded rappers in the game
I know for a fact nobody know what the fuck these dudes be saying!
Wait, turn my reverb and my auto-tune on real quick
This what the fuck they be doing
[Intro]
Yeah, haha, yeah!
Shawty, let’s make money!
Turn up!
[Verse]
I put it Rollie, I’m drinkin’ straight lean
A bitch is straight feelin’ my diamonds (my diamond)
I roll in the city, my nigga, you got me
The shit, man, that’s hit, on my mama (Brrrrp!)
And give me some ugh! (Bow)
Robbing them, nigga, and fool (I holla)
Embedded the money, I got us some putty, some butter
Hakuna Matata! (Tata! Tata! Tata!) (turn up!)
I am tellin’ you niggas
I’ll bury yo’ daddy for taking my lotion (I know you)
I been taming your barrel, I say what I said
When I’m saying “my lotion!” (Gimme my lotion!)
I been giving you money, my niggas
And niggas’ll go a lil crazy (Go, Go!)
I went to the doctor, he looked at my dick
And he said I got rabies! (Dang!)
[Pre-Hook]
A lotta niggas tryna figure out
She gonna do a nigga big, I know
I’m on the jury duty’s corners standin’ big, I know
I’m standin’ big, I know
I want it big, I know (I know, I know)
[Hook]
I know, I know
I know, I know, I got it big, I know
I know, I know
I know, I know, I got it big, I know
I got it big, I know
I got it big, I know
I got it big, I know
I know, I know
[Outro]
Now watch these dumbasses be like
“Aye, that shit was hard though, bruh!”

So love mumble rap or hate it, this video is still pretty funny. Hopsin even does it better than most of the rappers out there, which shows his fans that he could easily sell out to make a profit, but he doesn’t. Hopsin is a talented rapper that deserves a lot more credit. So many rappers are becoming super famous and they don’t even have half his talent- no wonder he is pissed. Don’t change your flow to get big Hopsin. Amongst all the bullsh*t Hopsin has stayed true to himself and his talent has shined through.

[NEWS] THE JERSEY SHORE IS BACK

The Jersey Shore is MTV’s most successful reality TV show they have ever put out. Originally premiering in 2009 it followed the summer of best friends Pauly D, Snooki, The Situation, Sammi Sweetheart, Ronnie, J-wow, Vinny and Angelina. Although there was plenty of drama we got to see this group become best friends while clubbing, tanning and doing their laundry. It aired for 6 seasons and received a whopping 8.8 million total viewers for its season four premiere and inspired countless spinoffs of the show.

But this time they are doing a spin-off of themselves. The producers finally realized that no spin-off is going to be close to the entertainment value of the original stars, which is why on April 5th the “Jersey Shore Family Reunion” premieres on MTV April 5th, 2018.

Check out the trailer here:

I’m extremely excited for the reunion but I wonder how the show is going to be now that they are all in their 30s at this point in their lives. Snooki and J-wow have kids now and basically, everyone is almost married or married. I wonder how that is going to play out when they are back at the shore. Kids change people and we might not be seeing them get too trashy.

Also, it looks like almost everyone has plastic surgery. Is it going to have the same appeal now that they are all insanely rich, or will that give them the motive to make this reunion show insanely popular to keep their status?

Overall I am happy to tune in to watch their reunion. Hopefully, it doesn’t ruin the old seasons for us, but with all the drama of Mike the Situation going to jail, and the fact that Ron is getting married it is sure to be entertaining. Maybe that’s why Sammi doesn’t want to go! Hopefully, they still have their alcohol tolerance or we might see a lot of puking.

HOW DOES CHRIS BROWN STILL HAVE A CAREER?

When I hear that Chris Brown still has a career I get extremely upset. In 2018 he is still making music with decently popular artists that keep him on the radio. He just released a song with a music video, “Tempo” on March 2nd, 2018 and it has gotten about 14 million plays on Youtube and local rap station radios play it quite frequently. He just had a recent collaboration with Lil Dicky for “Freaky Friday” and that has gotten a lot of attention too. But the question in my mind will not remain silent. How could this guy still have a career after beating up Rihanna? What is wrong with the music industry to the point where someone who beats up his girlfriend still has a shot at a career and one that is doing pretty well. I could not imagine someone who still supports his career knowing that he has been in several cases of domestic abuse, and with real concrete evidence. This is not a speculation but a hard fact that doesn’t seem to be gaining any ground.

In February 2009 when the couple was set to go the Grammys they got into a heated argument which causes Chris Brown to hit Rihanna to the point where she got a horrific black eye that flooded the internet. After that fight, I was sure that Chris Brown would never see the light of day again but he is still making music almost ten years after the incident and people seem to be turning a blind eye to it. I can’t imagine that a record company would even want his name on the label. Chris Brown isn’t even that good so the fact that he is still making music shows how society views domestic violence. They don’t care unless they are involved and since it is not affecting them directly they are willing to turn a blind eye to it. No wonder why thousands of women never want to report domestic violence to the police, no one cares about it. If a huge celebrity like Rihanna cannot do anything then how would a normal person do anything to help themselves in that sort of situation? We have to start treating these cases like they are meant to be treated, and that isn’t lightly. Chris Brown is a dangerous person but we continue to treat him like his violent actions were a one-time thing. To trust Chris Brown and actually give him the time of day, says a lot about you. People lose their lives over domestic abuse and if someone thinks that isn’t important, they can figure it out themselves.
