TWENTY ONE PILOTS HAVE GOT TO GO

Twenty One Pilots was formed in 2009 by high-school friends Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas, and Chris Salih. They released about two albums which included their 2009 self-titled release and Vessel in 2013 which included one of their best songs, “Car Radio.”

Listen to Car Radio here:

Twenty One Pilots found their fame with the release of Blurryface in 2015 and it shot up on the charts. Their hit, “Stressed Out” got a lot of radio play and solidified their name in the punk genre. But something feels off about them. They claim to be punk, but they are really just ripping off the sound and lyrics of other popular punk bands and sprinkling cliches into their songs. Also, their sound is primarily based towards pop and hip-hop so I don’t know why they are branding themselves to be a big name in the pop-punk world.

They don’t have the same feeling of bands like Panic At the Disco!, My Chemical Romance, Fall out Boy or Greenday- which they seem to be imitating. Although they are very passionate about their music, it just isn’t adding up.

This can be best displayed by their song, “Stressed Out” which tries to relate to listeners with the most basic memory that everyone has, being young and then growing up and having to get a job. Somehow this concept worked and it has almost a billion plays on Spotify?

The lyrics go,

“Wish we could turn back time, To the good old days, When our momma sang us to sleep but, Now we’re stressed out.”

Does anyone else agree that the lyric, “now we’re stressed out” is kind of awkward phrasing?

Yes, it’s a good song, but it shouldn’t be praised like it is. It is clearly not a masterpiece in any sense of the term. Also, their other releases are not even close to the quality of this one, which wasn’t even that good in the first place. Singles like, “Ride” and “Heavydirtysoul” prove they are one trick ponies. Their addition to the Suicide Squad soundtrack “Heathens” literally SOUNDS LIKE STRESSED OUT! They have the same chorus progression and the singer doesn’t even seem to have vocal variety. Why do we keep making people like this famous?

Listen to the similarities:

They are trying to revive the classic 2000s punk but they don’t have the talent and skill that the previous bands possessed to make it work. But they can keep trying and people are actually buying it. I would understand if they were a moderately popular band averaging around 5 million views per music video, but no- they almost have a billion. Their band feels more like an insult to punk in my opinion and I can’t wait until they fall off because they don’t deserve to have this level of fame.

WAKA FLOCKA BANS LIL XAN FROM HIP HOP

Just like most of the veterans in Hip Hop, Waka Flocka is not a fan of some of the new rap artists of today. Flocka has already insulted a few rappers, calling Lil Pump an “albino Waka Flocka” and Smokepurpp is a “lame”. Next Waka takes his insult to upcoming rapper & internet sensation Lil Xan.

Flocka took it upon himself to take it to Twitter and BAN Lil Xan from Hip Hop all together! Legend Tupac agreed with Flocka’s decision adding a “so be it”.

A recent interview Xan had did with Revolt was the reason these legends felt the way they did towards him. Lil Xan said that Tupac’s music was boring and a lot of artists found this down right disrespectful! Waka jumped on Twitter after his ban comment and clarified that Tupac is the “god of rap” and Pac helped Waka get through his childhood.

Lil Xan says he’s now no longer doing interviews. Come on Xan, show the greats some respect!

[RIHANNA] NEW LINGERIE LINE

Rihanna keeps coming out with clothing lines that impress all of her fans due to the creativity and style that she possesses. On Valentine’s Day she put out her line of socks, and now she is coming out with a lingerie line. Personally, I feel like the lingerie line should have come out on Valentine’s Day but you can’t rush the creative process.

According to WWD, Rihanna has reportedly struck a deal with the El Segundo-based brand TechStyle Fashion Group to produce her next line of fashion. It almost feels natural that she would put out a lingerie brand. It feels like her ten-year career has been leading up to this folks. Just kidding, but it will seriously be an amazing collection that adds to her stage persona.

I will definitely try to buy a piece from this line since I already know it is going to be a bestseller. I can’t wait to see the spin she is going to take on this since apparently sex with her is amazing:

There is no launch date yet but I expect her to release a statement sometime this month. Hopefully, it will be right around when spring starts.

Rihanna has had a long relationship with bras:

“If I’m wearing a top, I don’t wear a bra. If I’m wearing a bra, I just wear a bra.”

Hopefully, she’ll model them!

MENTAL HEALTH & THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

In the music industry, it can be easy to be caught up in the stage persona that artists promote to their audiences. In the background of all of that, they can be completely different people with their own struggles. Many famous singers have confessed in interviews that they still feel depressed and sad some of the time despite their level of success.

These people are recording albums, living up to the expectations of fans and typically going on huge world tours throughout the entire year. Not only this but they have to be constantly bombarded with paparazzi and people who want to exploit their personal lives for money. These people are closely watched and criticized for the whole world to see and that takes a toll on their mental health.

Throughout the years some musicians have killed themselves due to the pressure and cannot get their lives back, which leads them to madness.

A suicide that was really sudden happened last year with the death of Chester Bennington from Linkin Park on July 20th, 2017. When singers bring up heavy topics in their songs like depression, loneliness, and frustration- it is hard for the listener to truly understand the depth of how the singer actually feels because the listener is focusing on their own experience.

Listen to one of their heavier songs here:

There were clear warning signs that Chester had a rough time in the past couple years with the suicide of his best friend, Chris Cornell. Chester killed himself on the day of his birthday which left fans in complete shock. I actually had tickets to see Linkin Park a week before he killed himself. But there were clear warning signs that should have been noticed.

Just check out this interview that was more of a cry for help:

Collectively as an industry, they must change the stigma on mental health. The industry should be more accepting that these celebrities are people too with thoughts and emotions. So often people think that they are Gods or people who are so successful that there is no possible way they could be sad. But we also don’t know what it is like to be them. By talking about these issues more it will hopefully bring light to them and stop other musicians from throwing away their life because they don’t know how to express their grief properly.

Rest in peace Chester Bennington, you will truly be missed.
