I don’t care what anyone says, Tink is so slept on. It’s been a couple years since the drop of her WD4 EP, and now the Illinois, Chicago Rap princess unleashed a new project and it is too bomb. The title of it is Pain & Pleasure, and the sensual 6- track project dropped this weekend. I’d be lying if I told you I haven’t had her on replay ever since. All I can say is Tink dove in her bag for this one. That means if you soft, be careful. This might put you deep into your feelings. With that being said, if you need something fresh and new to add to that bedroom playlist of yours, you better get on this! Because you lackin’. Stream this EP below via Spotify and bump this if your stay-at-home game strong like mine is. You’ll thank me later.
In 2017 the band released their third album, Evolve, and they certainly did evolve, but in the worst way possible. Taking a far right turn from their alt-rock sound, the band went strictly pop and tried to infuse EDM into their tracks. They took a more positive spin on these tracks. The fact is that Evolve doesn’t sound anything like the original sound of Imagine Dragons. I was shocked to hear that the atrocious song “Thunder” was by this band I once knew and loved.
The track “Thunder” is one of the worst tracks I have heard in a while. The repetitive nature over the repetitive beat makes it painful to listen to. The beat drop at the chorus is nothing special at all and is highly recycled. Not only that but the lyrics seem like they were written by a child.
He sings:
“Thunder, feel the thunder Lightning then the thunder Thunder, feel the thunder Lightning then the thunder Thunder, thunder Thunder”
How original? I don’t know how this song went through the producers, the radio stations and the charts.
Listen to the track here if you want your ears to bleed:
Not only was this one of the worst songs I have ever heard, the album is chock full of them.
Their other song, “Whatever It Takes” sounds almost exactly like “Thunder” when you hear the chorus progression. The chorus is also just as repetitive. They really are doing the same sh*t every song. What are they even singing about? What are you taking? I don’t get the vision for this song.
Ironically listen to it here:
If you want to listen to Thunder Part Three, this is the track for you. “Believer” is next on my list and it is as equally as frustrating. Racking up 500 million views on Youtube, it is making me believe that I can have a music career. The screaming lyrics near the chorus are so unnecessary and so annoying- and the worst part is that it makes this song at least a little different from their others on the album. The only saving grace is the bridge, but then it cuts back to the horribly annoying chorus. I definitely don’t believe in this album- that’s for sure.
Imagine Dragons used to be a great band but now they have turned into a sorry excuse for music. I feel like they are trying to produce tracks that are similar to their hit, “Radioactive” but they lack the creative depth to do it again. They used to be “On Top Of The World” but now are switching it up on us to the point where we don’t even recognize their sound anymore. They should have kept their “Demons” inside of them, they were probably writing the music.
“Look Alive” is one of the biggest tracks right now. “Look Alive” by BlocBoy JB featuring Drake is currently 11 on the Billboard top 100. I personally think it’s one of the best songs that Drake has put out in a while. The slow and monotone delivery of vocals in the chorus make this song. It gives it a vibe of swag and self-importance. You really want to be a part of their crew after this song.
The lyrics go:
“901 Shelby Drive, look alive, look alive (‘live) Niggas came up on this side, now they on the other side (word, word, word) Oh well, fuck ’em, dawg, we gon’ see how hard they ride (huh, fuck ’em) I get racks to go outside and I split it with the guys (outside) We up on the other side, niggas actin’ like we tied I’ve been gone since, like, July, niggas actin’ like I died They won’t be expectin’ shit when Capo go to slide (hah) ‘Cause I told them to put that shit behind us but I lied (hah)”
I would expect this music video to be one of his best since it is a huge step above “God’s Plan”. Drake has been going in a pop direction with songs like “God’s Plan”, “Hotline Bling” and his feature on “Work”. We really haven’t gotten to see his true rap in a long time since he is always up in his feelings. Since this was such a power move by Drake- I would expect the music video to be on the same level as his bars.
Check out the music video here:
Looking like it was shot in his basement, Drake and BlocBoy JB stand in a high school gym and throw money. I don’t remember doing that in high school? Then it shoots to him on a lawn outside someone’s house with his crew. Same sh*t different location. Then there are some shots in the club. Nothing too exciting. I will give the music video props for the downward camera angle though- that really helped display that the viewer is below them. The camera is mostly focused on Drake throughout the video that one would barely even know that it’s BlocBoy’s song. The camera doesn’t focus on the background crew that much, does that mean Drake is better than his own crew?
The song is about a crew but I only see Drake for the majority of the video. The scenes were boring and there should have been more variety in between shots. A typical rap video would not have done the song justice. If they showed girls shaking their asses with cars- it would devalue the message of the song, but that doesn’t mean the video should look this cheap. One of the best Drake songs in a while should have been better- but at least the song is out.
Tyler the Creator has always been a style icon. Whenever he is screaming about how much he hates his life or how he wants to save the bees- he has always made sure that he looks fresh.
He just released his latest single, “OKRA” on March 29th, 2018, and everyone is pretty hyped about his new music. I can’t for him to add to his discography.
Check out the single here:
Overall Tyler the Creator is a highly creative artist, a funny guy and also extremely stylish. He is the definition of the triple threat.
I am definitely going to cop the save the bees sweatshirt. I love that it is in orange print because it is bold- and usually a hard color to pull off. The fanny pack I’m going to have to pass on.
