BON IVER IS ACTUALLY A BAND?!

Bon Iver was the sound of late-2000s indie folk band. In 2008 they released their debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago which included his famous song “Skinny Love.”

And you know the song, “Skinny Love”:

Bon Iver is like the king of indie music that started the trend of writing about one-sided love. He not only wrote about it but he also translated the feeling of that emotion through music, which made us feel an extreme connection with him as an artist.

On his 2011 release, Bon Iver it contained the track “Holocene” which really solidified that he wasn’t just the guy who wrote “Skinny Love.” He then waited five years to release, 22. A Million and the public did not hear about it that much.

But wait, hold up-

I just saw a headline on Billboard entitled, “Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon Hosting Overnight Musical & Culinary Experience At His Hotel” and that confused me because I thought Bon Iver was Justin Vernon?

IT TURNS OUT THAT BON IVER IS ACTUALLY A BAND!

It is really weird that they are a band because the name “Bon Iver” does sound like a really chill indie guy who wears nothing but thrift clothes. But apparently not. I am kind of at a loss for words right now because I didn’t see this coming, and never thought to question it. Also, every music video they have, they don’t really show themselves or make it noticeable that it is more than one guy.

Check out the video for “Holocene”:

Yeah, that’s enough surprises for today.

Why do you have to go and make things so complicated Bon Iver?

RICK AND MORTY GET “SCHWIFTY” TO LOGIC’S NEW RELEASE

Logic the famous, “1-800-273-8255” rapper just released his new mixtape Bobby Tarantino II today. Side note, what is up with everyone putting out sequels to their old albums? Are they getting that uncreative with the titles?

Other than that, he made sure to have a special announcement on his Instagram page to celebrate:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgCPfpPgJ6o/?utm_source=ig_embed

His announcement was done by the characters of the Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty”

Rick and Morty seem to be great promotion tools. It’s crazy how this show went from having a small scale audience to becoming one of the most popular shows of the year. On the first episode of season three, they promoted McDonald’s Szechuan sauce and people flooded to McDonald’s and screamed at the workers to try to get a taste of it.

Check out these crazy fans here:

Logic must have known how much popularity this show generates because it almost has 600,000 likes on Instagram and the mixtape has already shot up to the top 10 list. Not only was it a carefully crafted marketing tool, it also was really funny, even if it has nothing to do with the mixtape.

Cheers Logic! I can’t wait to listen to the whole mixtape.

Rick and Morty are sure to “Get Schwifty” after the first listen:

[RELEASED TODAY] LIL YACHTY LIL BOAT 2 DROWNS OUT THE HATERS

Lil Yachty just released his highly anticipated, Lil Boat 2 today.

Check out his Instagram post here:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgHD5BoFxjP/?taken-by=lilyachty

At first, I was scared to listen to the album because Migos’ Culture 2 was so bad that it made me actually upset.

Check out my album review here

Lil Boat 2 adds so much to Lil Yachty as an artist. This 17 track album displays that he has not shown us his full talent yet. Almost every track on this album has a highlight. This album is more bar-heavy in comparison to his previous releases that sounded more playful like on his track, “Minnesota.”

Listen to his growth as an artist:

Check out the tracklist:

SELF MADE
BOOM! (Ft. Ugly God)
OOPS (Ft. 2 Chainz & K$upreme)
TALK TO ME NICE (Ft. Quavo)
GET MONEY BROS. (Ft. Tee Grizzley)
COUNT ME IN
She Ready (ft. PnB Rock)
Love Me Forever
DAS CAP
POP OUT (Ft. JBan$)
NBAYOUNGBOAT (Ft. YoungBoy Never Broke Again)
MICKEY (Ft. Lil Baby & Offset)
FWM
FLEX
WHOLE lotta GUAP
BABY DADDY (Ft. Lil Pump & Offset)
66 (Ft. Trippie Redd)

The highlights on this album include, “BABY DADDY (Ft. Lil Pump & Offset),” “66” Ft. Trippie Redd, TALK TO ME NICE” ft. Quavo, “SELF MADE,” “BOOM!” Ft. Ugly God and I highly suggest you listen to the rest.

To be honest, I didn’t expect the music to be this good from an artist that titled the album, Lil Boat. This is certainly a big boat now and Lil Yachty is coming for everyone that has doubted him. He is not just a one-sided artist, but someone who has talent and the drive to stay in the game for as long as possible. The promotion on this album has been great and the fact that there is incredible music to back it up, sets the bar for everyone else. Every rapper is the game probably feels less comfortable in their spot. Lil Yachty just went from a decently popular rapper to one not to be messed with. I definitely think that this album is going to do great on the charts and we will be hearing a bunch of these songs on the radio.

THIS SONG RUINED MY DAY

I heard this song on the radio today and it ruined my mood.

Listen to it here:

The song is entitled, “Favorite Color Is Blue” by Robert DeLong and K.Flay. I was surprised to hear this song on the radio because I have never heard of Robert DeLong before. I actually thought it was a Twenty One Pilots song, which I am sure you have heard that I am not a fan of them. Check out my article here.

My biggest critique is that if your song is confused with another artist to the point where someone has to spend twenty plus minutes on Google trying to find it, you are probably doing something wrong as an artist.

Here are the lyrics to this song (and I have highlighted my top picks of the worst lyrics):

Locked up, naked with socks
I’m watching the phone ring
It’s making me angry
It’s making me mad

Maxed out, minimum wage
My brain is a time bomb
I’m saying goodbye, Mom
I’ll see you again

Striking a pose
Smiling in photos without any reason
With people that I’ll never know
I’m out of control, live in a fictional prose
I took an oath, it’s killing me though
‘Cause I don’t believe in the things that I do

[Chorus] And now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite

[Verse 2] Roped up, rat in a cage
I’m having a breakdown
Drinking at a playground, tequila for one
Too short, walk in the streets, I’m hating my haircut
You say that you’re here, but
You live on the Sun

Burning a kite
I’m at a funeral, nothing unusual
Baby, I do what I like
Looking to fight, smoking a blunt and a pipe
Taking a bite, worm in the apple
I knew it would happen, ’cause honey the vermin survive
Swerve to the side, been driving all night

I’m thinking of changing my name, thinking of wrecking a home
‘Cause loving and hating are one and the same
And I’m feeling like everyone’s feeling alone
I’m just looking for something to soften the blow
A second inside of the truth
I don’t see red ’cause

[Chorus 2] Now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite color is blue

[Outro] And now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite color is blue
And now my favorite color is blue

The chorus of this song is “now my favorite color is blue,” like ok Robert. This is a complete rip off from The Story So Far since their band centers around the concept of the color blue on almost all of their albums.

Check out one of their songs here:

Most people wouldn’t notice because they are in separate genres, but it is just such a creative rip off that the listener can’t ignore. If he didn’t rip off The Story So Far, he just put the most basic cliche in his song. Not only is the song CENTERED around cliches, it tries to relate to the listener on the most basic levels. He discusses saying goodbye to his mom, not liking his minimum wage job, drinking on a playground (who does that?) and did you notice the random lyric about how he hates his haircut?

I passionately hate this song and I hope it doesn’t get any airtime. We have to notice when a song is just a complete lazy rip-off. I don’t know who you are Robert DeLong but I don’t like you.

TWENTY ONE PILOTS HAVE GOT TO GO

Twenty One Pilots was formed in 2009 by high-school friends Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas, and Chris Salih. They released about two albums which included their 2009 self-titled release and Vessel in 2013 which included one of their best songs, “Car Radio.”

Listen to Car Radio here:

Twenty One Pilots found their fame with the release of Blurryface in 2015 and it shot up on the charts. Their hit, “Stressed Out” got a lot of radio play and solidified their name in the punk genre. But something feels off about them. They claim to be punk, but they are really just ripping off the sound and lyrics of other popular punk bands and sprinkling cliches into their songs. Also, their sound is primarily based towards pop and hip-hop so I don’t know why they are branding themselves to be a big name in the pop-punk world.

They don’t have the same feeling of bands like Panic At the Disco!, My Chemical Romance, Fall out Boy or Greenday- which they seem to be imitating. Although they are very passionate about their music, it just isn’t adding up.

This can be best displayed by their song, “Stressed Out” which tries to relate to listeners with the most basic memory that everyone has, being young and then growing up and having to get a job. Somehow this concept worked and it has almost a billion plays on Spotify?

The lyrics go,

“Wish we could turn back time, To the good old days, When our momma sang us to sleep but, Now we’re stressed out.”

Does anyone else agree that the lyric, “now we’re stressed out” is kind of awkward phrasing?

Yes, it’s a good song, but it shouldn’t be praised like it is. It is clearly not a masterpiece in any sense of the term. Also, their other releases are not even close to the quality of this one, which wasn’t even that good in the first place. Singles like, “Ride” and “Heavydirtysoul” prove they are one trick ponies. Their addition to the Suicide Squad soundtrack “Heathens” literally SOUNDS LIKE STRESSED OUT! They have the same chorus progression and the singer doesn’t even seem to have vocal variety. Why do we keep making people like this famous?

Listen to the similarities:

They are trying to revive the classic 2000s punk but they don’t have the talent and skill that the previous bands possessed to make it work. But they can keep trying and people are actually buying it. I would understand if they were a moderately popular band averaging around 5 million views per music video, but no- they almost have a billion. Their band feels more like an insult to punk in my opinion and I can’t wait until they fall off because they don’t deserve to have this level of fame.
