[News] San Francisco radio station to cease playing Drake songs for duration of NBA Finals

[News] San Francisco radio station to cease playing Drake songs for duration of NBA Finals

Surprisingly and yet also unsurprisingly, a San Francisco based radio station has banned Drake music from its playlists for the duration of the NBA Finals. The station is called KBLX and this news comes to us view The Mercury Review.

For anybody who somehow didn’t know. Drake is a Toronto Raptors super-fan and has been quite dramatic with his courtside support of the Raptors against the feared Golden State Warriors.

Elroy Smith, KBLX operations and programs director, spoke about the ban: “(We) could not stand on the sidelines and accept Drake showing no love for our Golden State Warriors. It is my joy to cease and desist all of Drake’s music on KBLX in support a team that is loved by the Bay Area and around the world. Oh yes, we are proclaiming a 3-peat.”

Though he is likely right implying that Drake’s fervent support for The Raptors may be taking a toll on The Warriors and their fanbase, Smith’s later statement that the ban was because of Drake “showing no love for our Golden State Warriors”, is not entirely true. Drake has both Steph Curry and Kevin Durant tattoos on his arm. Drake’s later statement that “all is fair in war and war” (a reference to “all is fair in love and war”) is actually quite descriptive.

[Music] Kid Cudi and A$AP Rocky toy with the idea of a world tour on Twitter

[Music] Kid Cudi and A$AP Rocky toy with the idea of a world tour on Twitter

According to Complex and Twitter, ASAP Rocky likes the idea of going on a world tour with Kid Cudi.

A twitter user tweeted at Kid Cudi, “would we see you do a world tour in the coming years.. revisiting places like Australia?” Cudi responded that he’d like to and why not bring some people like ASAP Rocky.

Rocky responded to the mention enthusiastically, “FACT$!!! THIS IS A GOAL LET$ MAKE IT HAPPEN!!”

Rocky and Cudi have collaborated on tracks on Cudi’s 2013 album Indicud and Rock’s 2018 album TESTING, but they’ve never toured together. Thanks to @GYacoub95 for seemingly planting the idea in Cudi and of course shout-out to Twitter as a medium, for possibly bringing these two all star rappers together.

[News] Billboard to release weekly Top Songwriters and Top Producers charts

[News] Billboard to release weekly Top Songwriters and Top Producers charts

For those who don’t follow music but want to seem educated, Billboard has come to the rescue with its new weekly Top Songwriters and Top Producers charts. A quick look at these lists will definitely score some points in a conversation. The charts will debut in the Billboard issue that comes June 15th and in a June 13th email blast delivered to Billboard subscribers. This addition seems like a smart move by Billboard, perfectly complimenting their weekly Billboard song rankings.

The charts will be calculated quantitatively: based on total points accrued by a songwriter or producer for each attributed song that appears on the respective charts. I like this move because if the Top Songwriters and Producers charts were ordered subjectively, that would ruffle many feathers, no matter the order.

According to Billboard.com, “We’re extremely excited to acknowledge the top creative forces behind music’s biggest hits on a weekly basis,” says Silvio Pietroluongo, Billboard SVP of charts and data development. “A songwriter or producer’s influence and importance within the industry and beyond certainly merits recognition beyond our yearly rankings.”

“Anytime a light is shone upon the songwriters and producers who are the backbone of the industry, it’s a very good thing,” Atlas Music founder and CEO Richard Stumpf tells Billboard. “What Billboard is doing ties together with the digital services starting to show songwriter credits, so all of this is going the right way in helping the music fans become aware of the songwriters and the role they play.”

[News] According to Forbes, Jay Z becomes first billionaire rapper

According to Forbes, Jay Z has recently become the first billionaire hip hop artist. Totaling all of Jay Z’s income from his involvement in the recording industry, liquor, art and more, the magazine conservatively estimates that his net worth $1 billion.

Unlike other Forbes reports on celebrities total earnings, this report breaks down that $1 billion into Jay’s various ventures.

Apart from amassing $75 million for his music catalogue, Jay Z holds a $310 million stake in his luxury champagne brand Armand de Brignac, and another $100 million in his cognac brand U’Esse.

The Brooklyn rapper sold his clothing line Rocawear for $204 million in 2007 and his cash portfolio holds $220 million, which includes a $70 million investment in Uber.

And as mentioned, Jay Z is known for his extensive art collection, which is estimated to be worth $120 million.

Congrats to Hova…I imagine it won’t take another 49 years to reach $2 billion.
