Staples Center is packed for the memorial service for deceased rapper Nipsey Hussle. After the two hour long memorial, a procession is taking place that will pass through Inglewood, Watts, and South Angeles. It will also stop at the Marathon Clothing store, a store owned by Hussle and where he was fatally murdered last night.
According to the New York Times, as the first performer, Stevie Wonder took the opportunity to make a call for stronger gun control regulations. He closed his performance by singing ‘Tears in Heaven’.
Snoop Dogg also paid tribute to Hussle and called him a “visionary”. He commented on how Hussle’s music was a source of unification for a part of the city that is rampant with gang violence. Snoop said: “We’re going to respect another man from another neighborhood when he comes from where we come from. You are a peace advocate, Nip. That’s what you are.”
Nipsey Hussle’s mom, Angelique Smith, spoke at length about her religious beliefs and hoped that Hussle’s ancestor would “lead him on this journey”.
Boosie Badazz was released from jail on $3,500 bond after being arrested for a drug, firearm arrest. Yesterday in Newman, Georgia, Boosie was pulled over by police officers after they noticed his car driving dangerously, veering in and out of different lanes. Interestingly enough, a man named Antonio Brown was in the passenger seat, but not stud wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
According to policeman Jeff Bugg, who pulled the car over, he smelled marijuana coming from the car, which gave him “probable cause” to search the car for drugs. Bugg reported that he found a THC vape pen, 11 grams of marijuana, a bag with $20,000 in it, and a loaded handgun. Both men were charged with marijuana possession and possession of a firearm at a crime scene.
After being booked at Coweta Magistrate Court, Boosie was released today on a $3,500 bond. Sheriff Wood said his actions were not serious and the clerk at the court wrote that the arrest was just a “misunderstanding”.

It’s been about a year since Scorpion was released and immediately started dominating the charts. Since then, we’ve received no new music from ChampagnePapi. Thankfully, in the London show of his Assassination Vacation tour, Drake hinted pretty clearly at new music being released next year. He said: ““This is one of my favorite places to be in the world, so I think what I’ma do—I kinda actually started last night to be honest with you. But I think what I’ma do after this, is I’ma go home and I’ma make a new album so I can come back to London next year and we can do this again.” It will be interesting and enjoyable to experience how the Scorpion follow-up will differ from its predecessor. If Scorpion had 25 songs on it, this new album should have no less than 50.
Drake also announced a sequel to What a Time to be Alive with Future. We have good reason to believe that it will be named “What a Time to be Alive 2” because of a not-so-subtle reference in a story on Future’s Instagram: “ ‘What’s that? We gotta cook that up. That two,’ said Drake while holding up two fingers. Future responded, ‘It’s already cooked. Top secret’ ”. It’s been four years since their first collaboration, which had debuted number one on Billboard 200.
I’ll leave the reader with this one burning question: how can they not agree on whether the album is cooked or not?
ScHoolboy Q dropped his video for “CHopstix” yesterday. The second single from ScHoolboy has been heavily promoted as a part of his upcoming album release. The song also has a second video that was released a few days that is a ballet performance loop that is featured in the full length video. This new release has a much higher production value and is shot entirely in black and white.
Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of the song, but the video has a decent aesthetic to pair with the music. The “Numb Numb Juice” song and video are a much stronger pairing for ScHoolboy’s skill set. This one falls a bit flat.

Lil Yachty and Chance The Rapper teamed up for a freestyle that dropped on SoundCloud late last night. The song is a fusion between the Atlanta and Chicago natives coming to together over a trap beat. Lil Yachty had a ton of songs leak onto the internet yesterday, but this is the one that brandishes the most star power.
I talked to friend about this song upon its release and asked what his thoughts were. His response was positive, in fact, he described the song perfectly without wasting any words. “It’s just rapping,” he said. A lot of rapping on this song. I didn’t think it would be possible to have so much rapping on a three minute song, but here we are. This is track is pure rap.

Kevin Abstract dropped a brand new, three song EP late last night titled ARIZONA baby. The EP was produced by longtime Brockhampton member Romil Hemnani and multi-faceted musician Jack Antonoff. It’s Abstract’s first solo project since 2016.
Abstract has been teasing music for the past few weeks, posting videos and samples from new tracks on his Twitter and Instagram. What was initially thought to be a date for singles, it seems like Abstract will be releasing a set of EP’s over the next two weeks. He posted on his Instagram account a picture of new cover art for what is expected to be his next release titled Ghettobaby.
Never a stranger to surprised releases, Abstract is always up to something when it comes to making new music. His collaboration with Jack Antonoff marks another milestone for the young L.A. based rapper as his sound continues to evolve with every new track. His new EP has three tracks titled “Big Wheels,” “Joy Ride,” and “Georgia” available on all streaming platforms.
