According to the HBO website, the final airing of the documentary Leaving Neverland will be moved to April 17th. It was supposed to be in late September but it is likely due to the inconsistencies in James Safechuck’s story. Safechuck alleged that he was abused by Jackson from 1988 to 1992 and that one incident happened at Neverland’s train station. However, the train station wasn’t actually built until 1993.
As was reported last week, Taj Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, is raising funds for his own docuseries that will expose the lies the media has told about Michael. Also, the Jackson estate planned to sue HBO immediately after Leaving Neverland aired. Oprah Winfrey deleted her After Neverland interviews, conversations between her and the two alleged victims in Leaving Neverland, from her YouTube channel.
Despite hearing rumors about Michael Jackson and pedophilia throughout my life, I was still shocked when I saw Leaving Neverland. I was not alone in this reaction either, as the internet promptly erupted in a firestorm when it aired. Therefore, it would have been quite evil if both James Safechuck had completely fabricated his sexual relations with Michael.
We should also remember that a person’s memory is far from always correct. Being so young at the time, Safechuck could have misremembered the exact time span that the abuse took place, without lying about the abuse actually happening. Whatever the truth may be, I’m not going to firmly take either side of the controversy and will keep a look out for any future revelations.

Again, Kodak Black is in the news for some despicable behavior. This time, he went on Instagram and inappropriately flirted with Lauren London, the girlfriend of recently deceased Nipsey Hussle. The official quote is “Lauren London that’s baby, though. She about to be out here single. She’s finna be a whole widow out here. I’ll be the best man I can be for her. I’ll give her a whole year. She might need a whole year to be crying and shit for [Nipsey].”
His rant did not sit well with the community and many have disparaged him for his insensitive comment. The Game and T.I. have both called him out and Charlamagne Tha God named him the “Donkey of the Day”.
Justin Credible, a DJ at Los Angeles’ Power 106, announced on Twitter that the radio station has ceased to play Kodak Black’s music. The tweet read “We stand with the family of Nipsey Hussle and are appalled by the disrespectful and poor comments made by Kodak Black. With that, Power 106 will not support Kodak Black’s music.”
This came after Kodak had called Young M.A. a ‘dyke’ in his most recent song ‘Pimpin’ Ain’t Eazy”. As Charlamagne correctly put, someone needs to sit Kodak down and lecture him on manners. Sure it’s a free country and he shouldn’t be sent to jail for these comments, but that doesn’t mean that the public should support his music. Kodak will have to do more than stopping future insulting remarks to earn back the respect he once had.
Let me know your current opinions on Kodak Black in the comments.
R Kelly might have taken the saying “short and sweet” a little too literally when his first post-jail performance lasted for less than 30 seconds. Springfield, Illinois’ local news stations WICS and WRSP reported that after being scheduled to perform at midnight, R Kelly showed up at the Dirty South Lounge at 1:30 am. He then spent over a half an hour socializing with fans and eventually took the stage and sang the first line from his song “Bump n Grind”.
The tickets for the show went for $100 with only 150 people in the audience in a club that seats 450. Some of the audience members were interviewed after the show and said that although they tried to view the music as separate from the artist, they were disappointed by such a short show.
R Kelly had posted a video on Instagram a few hours before the show in which he explained that he now has to play at small clubs to make a living. He said: “I got an event to do tonight in Springfield, Illinois, so I want the media to take it easy on me, man. This is how I gotta get paid now. So, I gotta go do this event and it’s a party. So, when you see me in the club with a couple of drinks in my hand and chilling, please take it easy.” He was paid $22,000 for this “performance”.
For the record, I think R Kelly spent a little too much time “chilling” and not enough “doing the event”. I’m also surprised that even one venue agreed to book him.

Two days ago, an unreleased Kanye song, featuring Bon Iver and Santigold, appeared on Reddit. This came the day after a potential collaboration between Kanye and Nicki Minaj was teased on an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians. The leaked song has been unofficially titled “Shoot Up” because of the lyrics “Shoot up, shoot up, shoot up the station, TV station, oh Shoot up, shoot up, shoot up the station, TV’s dead”. It features an auto-tuned Ye, a verse from Bon Iver, and a catchy chorus with Kanye, Bon Iver, and Santigold all joining in.
Although the leaked song has since been removed, it’s production and polish certainly sound official. And given the speed at which it was taken down, I suspect that it is legitimate. However, since neither Kanye nor his team have commented on the leak, it is unclear whether this is the official mix.
Fans are speculating that this song will be part of Kanye’s upcoming album, Yandhi. Unfortunately, the album has been delayed several times, and there is no official release date. Hopefully, it is released by the end of 2019, but I would not be surprised if we don’t even get it by then.

It was announced that the intersection between Slauson Ave and Crenshaw Boulevard will be named in honor of recently deceased rapper Nipsey Hussle. The Grammy-nominated artist was gunned down outside his clothing store on March 31 and today Los Angeles Council announced that the intersection will now be named Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Ashgedon Square. The square in south Los Angeles is in the same area where Nipsey Hussle grew up.
After the rapper’s death two Sundays ago, an online petition to rename the intersection was started and has now accumulated almost 500,000 signatures,. Some argued that the streets should remain untouched and that the intersection should be left as they were when Hussle grew up there. But the amount of fans that favored this memorialization, won in the end. In addition, Hussle’s family will be hosting a public memorial service for the rapper at Staples Center.
Los Angeles owes Nipsey Hussle, not only for the timeless music that he recorded, but also for his investment in the city. Besides sponsoring Destination Crenshaw, a 1.3 mile artistic celebration of black people living in the city, Hussle founded his own clothing store and Vector90, and helped improve the infrastructure of the city. This honor is a good start.
What else should be done to honor Nipsey Hussle? Let me know in the comment section.
