[EIGHTH GRADE] BO BURNHAM’S FIRST FEATURE FILM

Bo Burnham, the 27-year-old comedian that has been known for his social media presence and comedy acts has a new project up his sleeve. Everyone thought he was laying low, but he was secretly working on his next big project.

Check out some of his popular Vines:

He is releasing his first feature film this summer entitled Eighth Grade and it is set to be released sometime this year. It premiered on the Sundance festival on January 19th and has gotten great reviews.

Check out the trailer here:

The Sundance press release stated:

“Thirteen-year-old Kayla endures the tidal wave of contemporary suburban adolescence as she makes her way through the last week of middle school — the end of her thus far disastrous eighth-grade year — before she begins high school.”

The story centers around an awkward girl in the eighth grade who is trying to fit in with the other people at school but her social anxiety doesn’t allow her to branch out. To cope she uses the internet to vent and post videos, but it all comes at a price. The theme of this movie relates to anyone who hated middle school- and who didn’t? It might be a basic concept but Bo Burnham does have a talent for comedy, and we will certainly be seeing his dry comedy up on the big screen- let’s hope it doesn’t tank like his MTV show Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous (despite how good it really was).

The film is set to be released in July:

[NEW MUSIC] TYLER THE CREATOR – “OKRA”

Today Tyler, The Creator dropped a new track “OKRA,” and he’s given us an interesting music video to go along with it. This beat is trippy. Watch Flower Boy spit bars over it and let us know what you think of it. He claims in the introduction that this was all done in one take.

LANA DEL REY LEAVING RADIOHEAD “HIGH AND DRY”

For the last few months, there has been a heated lawsuit that was affecting the music world. Radiohead sued Lana Del Rey over writing credits on her Lust for Life track “Get Free.” The songs were pretty similar so it was a case that took a few weeks to fully work out.

Listen to the similarities here if you haven’t already:

This Sunday at the Lollapalooza event in Brazil, which Lana was performing at she announced that her lawsuit was over. During her encore, while performing, “Get Free” Lana lit a cigarette and stated,

“Now that my lawsuit’s over, I guess I can sing that song anytime I want, right?”

Watch her performance here:

Radiohead’s publishers stated:

“As Radiohead’s music publisher, it’s true that we’ve been in discussions since August of last year with Lana Del Rey’s representatives. It’s clear that the verses of ‘Get Free’ use musical elements found in the verses of ‘Creep’ and we’ve requested that this be acknowledged in favor of all writers of ‘Creep.’ To set the record straight, no lawsuit has been issued and Radiohead have not said they ‘will only accept 100 percent’ of the publishing of ‘Get Free.'”

Overall this lawsuit has been so confusing and attracted bad publicity for both the artists. I don’t get why they keep releasing different statements because I thought that Radiohead was pursuing the lawsuit. There is so much drama in Hollywood. I am glad that Lana gets to sing her song again because it was one of the highlights of her album. We can’t really un-hear the similarities in both their songs, so I wish that Radiohead would have won this lawsuit. I don’t think anything can take down Lana Del Rey that this point in her career.
