Magny-Ponzinibbio Main Event Set

The UFC will make its first visit to Argentina on Saturday as Neil Magny (21-6, 15-4 UFC) collides with Santiago Ponzinibbio  (26-3, 8-2 UFC) in a five-round welterweight main event matchup at the Parque Roca Arena, in Buenos Aires.

.After Friday morning’s weigh-ins, fans will be treated to this pivotal matchup between ranked UFC contenders as both fighters made weight.

Neil Magny, who last fought in May when he knocked out UFC newcomer Craig White in the first round, stepped on the scales at 171 pounds. Santiago Ponizinbbio, who is fighting in his homeland of Argentina on Saturday night, weighed in at 171 pounds as well.

All but one fighter made weight as strawweight contender Cynthia Calvillo weighed in two pounds over the strawweight limit at 118 pounds, and therefore will have to give 20 percent of her fight purse away to her opponent Poliana Botelho.

[SPORTS] NFL WEEK 11 PICKS: CHIEFS TOP RAMS IN LA SHOWDOWN

[SPORTS] NFL WEEK 11 PICKS: CHIEFS TOP RAMS IN LA SHOWDOWN

Mahomes, Chiefs Will Do Enough In Marque Matchup

Week 10 Results: 8-6

Record this season: 94-54

Week 11 of the NFL season brings us a number of fascinating matchups.

We have a heavyweight matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams that was originally scheduled for New Mexico but moved to Los Angeles on Tuesday due to poor field conditions at Estadio Aztec Field.

Never mind that, a battle of two 9-1 teams is worth the price of admission no matter where its played, and fans should be treated to quite a battle on Monday night.

Also on the docket, a key AFC South matchup in Indianapolis between the Titans and Colts, division leaders clash in Landover as the Washington Redskins host the Houston Texans, and Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears battle at Soldier Field for the NFC North lead.

I’m looking forward to this week as much as you guys likely are and anticipate these matchups leaving up to the hype.

With that said, here are my picks for Week 11 of the NFL season.

Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks

The Green Bay Packers are winless on the road, and now enter arguably the toughest venue in the NFL to play football in. The catch here is that Seattle is only 1-2 at home, but given that they’ll be getting the return back of a number of players, you sense that Seattle will come out treating this game like it’s a do-or-die affair at 4-5 this season and in need of wins, fast.

Prediction: Seattle Seahawks 33 Green Bay Packers 23

Dallas Cowboys at Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan has been great this season, experiencing just his third subpar game of the season vs the Cleveland Browns last week. He faces one of the best defenses he’s seen this season in the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday, but as last week showed, you can beat Dallas down the field if the quarterback has time in the pocket. Look for Calvin Ridley to have a huge day.

Prediction: Atlanta Falcons 27 Dallas Cowboys 24

Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions

The Carolina Panthers are coming off one of the worst losses in franchise history to the Pittsburgh Steelers last Thursday, but it’s not the end of the world for this team, especially given their foes this week. The Detroit Lions can’t protect Matthew Stafford and their pass defense has struggled over the past three weeks. Rebound game for the Panthers, who can ill afford to lay an egg here.

Prediction: Carolina Panthers 30 Detroit Lions 20

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Giants

The New York Giants are winless at home this season, but a turnover prone Tampa Bay Buccaneers team could prove vital. The Buccaneers don’t force turnovers, and have one of the NFL’s worst defenses. If Odell Beckham Jr. doesn’t beat them, Saquon Barkley certainly will.

Prediction: New York Giants 23 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21

Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts

This is a true pick em. I don’t trust Tennessee after they went on the road and put up a stinker on offense vs Buffalo back in Week 5, but I suppose they may have finally turned the page on that loss and the losses that would follow after dominating the Patriots last week. Hard to pick against the Colts here at home, but I believe Tennessee’s ability to convert on third down will make the difference.

Prediction: Tennessee Titans 30 Indianapolis Colts 27

Houston Texans at Washington Redskins

The Houston Texans had a bye week to prepare for one of the NFL’s lowest scoring offenses. It’s saying something when Washington scores 16 points vs Tampa Bay’s defense last Sunday, but now they face a J.J. Watt-led defense? Count me as pessimistic about Washington’s chances of winning a game like they did last week this week.

Prediction: Houston Texans 24 Washington Redskins 14

Pittsburgh Steelers at Jacksonville Jaguars

The Pittsburgh Steelers want to win this game for obvious reasons. One, to not lose their hold on the No. 2 seed. The other, to finally beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, who beat them twice last year at Heinz Field in embarrassing fashion. The Jaguars look like they’re mailing it in on defense right now, and that should produce great results for Pittsburgh.

Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers 27 Jacksonville Jaguars 10

Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are quiet regarding their quarterback on Sunday, but for the sake of it being so late in the week making these picks, I’ll just assume Baltimore is going with Lamar Jackson. If they are, there’s no film on him and he’s going up against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. This is more-so a step-up game for the Ravens defense, which has taken a step back in recent weeks.

Prediction: Baltimore Ravens 24 Cincinnati Bengals 16

Oakland Raiders at Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals just slowed down the Kansas Chiefs offense that benefitted from a interception by linebacker Justin Houston just to reach their season-low of 26 points. Consider a loss at home to the Oakland Raiders as a complete disaster at this point with all things considered.

Prediction: Arizona Cardinals 23 Oakland Raiders 7

Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are rolling, with their defense coming up huge in the past five weeks. This defense is allowing just 13.2 PPG in that span. Denver has weapons on offense, but a beatable offensive line and a inconsistent quarterback, two aspects Los Angeles will fully take advantage of.

Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers 31 Denver Broncos 16

Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints

The Philadelphia Eagles simply don’t look like themselves on defense from the team we saw a season ago, and that spells doom in a trip to New Orleans. The Saints have four out of their past five games by double digit points and have scored 43 or more points four times during this streak, they’ll eclipse the 40-point mark again in this one.

Prediction: New Orleans Saints 42 Philadelphia Eagles 24

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are one of the few teams capable of matching up with Minnesota’s wide receiver duo on the outside without double teaming too often. While Kirk Cousins won’t be shy in targeting Adam Thielen or Stefon Diggs, he’ll have little time to do so going against this pass rush.

Prediction: Chicago Bears 20 Minnesota Vikings 14

Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are 9-1, but they’re limping into this one. The defense is playing poorly and have allowed teams to run the football on them with frequent success. When looking at this matchup, the pass rush off the edge by Kansas City is the difference. I believe Dee Ford, Justin Houston and Chris Jones will cause just enough disruption for Jared Goff in the pocket to force Los Angeles into punts, which will be very few in this high-scoring matchup.

Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs 37 Los Angeles Rams 33

The Best Who Never Were

The Best Who Never Were

Everyone loves legends. They’re easy to root for. If the team you root for stinks, the legend is always there for you. The legend never disappoints. But what about those athletes on their way to legendary status, only to have their path derailed?? The “what if” game is a fun one to play. What would sports look like today if Bo Jackson wasn’t forced to retire? What if Yao Ming hadn’t been 7 foot 6 but born with feet made for a man a foot shorter?? Or Greg Oden.

Here are the best who never were.

Bo Jackson is considered the greatest modern athlete of all time. The legend of Bo Jackson started at Auburn University, where he played both baseball and football. While at Auburn, Jackson won a Heisman Trophy, four team MVPs, the Tanqueray award for excellence in amateur sports, College Baseball Coaches Association All-Region Team, and All-District Team. He would later go on to play baseball for the Kansas City Royals in 1986 and join the L.A. Raiders in 1991. Bo Jackson is still the only athlete in history to be named an All-Star in baseball and football. In his last game with the Raiders  in January 1991, Jackson suffered a dislocated hip following a tackle. He was never the same, and was forced to retire at the age of 28.

At his peak, Jay Willams was one the best young talents from the 2002 NBA draft. A point guard from Duke and ACC rookie of the year averaging  14.5 points per game and 6.5 assists, his talents soon caught the eyes of NBA General Mangers. During his short time with the NBA, Jay showed pulses of greatness, but struggled to put together a series of consistent games. In 2003, Jay Willams crashed his motorcycle severed the main nerve in his leg, fractured pelvis, and tore ligaments in his left knee. After failed attempts to make it back to the league, Jay Willams was forced to retire and never played in the NBA again.

In his first four seasons, Brandon Roy was a three-time NBA All-Star. In 2007, Brandon Roy was selected as Rookie of the year putting himself at the top among the NBA’s best guards. The 2008 season proved to be the down fall of Brandon Roy when a procedure was done on his left knee to remove a piece of cartilage. In 2010, Brandon Roy tore the meniscus in his right knee and in the 2010-2011 season had arthroscopic surgery on both knees. Brandon Roy retired after that season due to a knee condition, he attempted a come back with Minnesota but lasted 5 games before needing yet another procedure on his right knee.

The legend of Priest Holmes was born in Kansas City and unfortunately was also  laid to rest in Kansas City. In 2001, Priest Holmes ran for 1,400 yards in three consecutive seasons. During the 2002 season he ran for 21 touchdowns only to set an NFL record when he rushed for 27 touchdowns in 2003. In 2004, Priest Holmes was again on pace to break his own record, rushing  for 14 touchdowns in EIGHT GAMES! He would never break that record as he suffered a season ending injury that year. In the following year Priest Holmes missed 9 nine games due to a spinal cord injury. Priest Holmes would go to retire in 2007, he was just 29 years old. Holmes would retire as the Chiefs all time leading rusher (6,070 yards), rushing touchdowns (76) and touchdowns (83).

At 6’8 220 pounds, J.R. Richard was drafted second overall by the Houston Astros in 1969. He would go on to make his major league debut in 1971 at just 21 years old. During his first four seasons he only started 10 games, but in 1975  he would go on to win 12 of the 31 games started and striking out 176 batters. The ’76 season was a breakout for JR as he won 20 games, striking out 214 batters and finished 7th in the Cy Young voting. In the following seasons he would set a club record with 303 (’78)  313 (’79) strikeouts and finished fourth (’78) and third (’79) in the Cy-Young voting. His career would come to an end from a stroke caused from a blood clot that required immediate surgery. He never played on a major league field again.

[SPORTS] KNICKS STUCK IN STORM IN BLOWOUT LOSS TO OKC

[SPORTS] KNICKS STUCK IN STORM IN BLOWOUT LOSS TO OKC

Knicks Get Blown Off The Floor By Russell Westbrook-less Thunder

If you asked David Fizdale if his team could look any worse than they did in a sluggish and embarrassing loss at home on Sunday to the Orlando Magic, he’d probably say no.

The Oklahoma City Thunder made sure to provide Fizdale and the Knicks with more headaches during this recent swoon of blowout defeats.

The Oklahoma City Thunder overpowered the New York Knicks 128-103 on Wednesday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena as they sent New York to a third straight loss.

Paul George finished with a game-high 35 points to go along with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block as Oklahoma City won their second straight game and ninth in the past 10.

Oklahoma City is a far better basketball team than the New York Knicks, that much was on display on Wednesday night as they steamrolled David Fizdale’s Knicks in a easy victory at home.

The Thunder — who were without Russell Westbrook for a fourth straight game due to a ankle injury — jumped out to a 37-22 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back as that lead would grow 27 points before game’s end.

Oklahoma City shot 53 percent from the field while hitting 16 3-pointers on the night. They held the New York Knicks to 27 percent from beyond the arc and scored a staggering 36 points off of New York’s 18 turnovers.

Tim Hardaway Jr. scored a team-high 20 points for the New York Knicks while sinking three 3-pointers in just 25 minutes.

Enes Kanter scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds against his former team off of the bench for New York.

David Fizdale changed up the starting lineup for the Knicks, moving Kevin Knox and Emmanuel Mudiay into the starting lineup as he looked for a spark, but all he received was the complete opposite.

Frank Ntilikina is a liability with his shooting as he runs point guard for the Knicks first team, but coming off the bench may not solve his troubles. Damyean Dotson has recently struggled with on-ball defense, but he gives the effort, and has had some good moments.

It’s the third straight game where the Knicks have lost by 16 or more points. In total, the Knicks have lost three straight games by a grand total of 67 points as they look like a team not confident in their ability to compete.

It’s a learning curve for the Knicks, a team filled with mostly young and inexperienced players and without a veteran presence, something they could use.

Kristaps Porzingis is making progress from his ACL injury, but there’s still no timetable for his return.

Perhaps seeing him on the floor again could inspire this Knicks team to put forth a better effort, specifically on defense.

The New York Knicks will continue their three-game road trip on Friday night with a visit to the Smoothie King Center to play the New Orleans Pelicans as they look to end their dismal stretch of losses.

Nets Struggle To Find The Rim In Return Home

Winning the first game back from a four-game road trip out West was a challenge for Kenny Atkinson’s team and it proved to be just that in their return to Barclays Center.

The Miami Heat defeated the Brooklyn Nets 120-107 on Wednesday night at the Barclays Center to send Brooklyn to their third straight loss.

Tyler Johnson scored a game-high 24 points for the Miami Heat in 31 minutes off the bench as Miami snapped a three-game losing skid.

The Miami Heat got after the Brooklyn Nets on the defensive end, hounding them into a less than spectacular 40 percent shooting night while limiting them to 28.6 percent from beyond the arc.

The Brooklyn Nets were once again without starting center Jarrett Allen, and it mattered as Miami scored 70 points in the paint, an unacceptable amount of you’re the Brooklyn Nets.

Erik Spoelstra’s team led by as many as 23 points, letting their foot off the gas pedal to begin the fourth quarter when Brooklyn sliced their lead to nine points, but they would finish out the game by limiting the slow starting Nets.

Spencer Dinwiddie scored a team-high 18 points for the Brooklyn Nets off of the bench in 29 minutes of action.

The Brooklyn Nets bench showed up to a degree as Dinwiddie was one of three of the Nets’ reserves to reach double figures.

D’Angelo Russell was ultra aggressive with his shot in the first quarter, attempting 14 shot attempts but only making three of them as the Nets trailed 37-21 after the first.

Russell finished 6-for-18 in the game and scored only 12 points as Brooklyn began life without Caris LeVert, who suffered a fractured right foot in Brooklyn’s 120-113 loss on Monday to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Brooklyn (6-9) can’t allow teams to have a tour of the paint as they did on Wednesday night and they can’t go out and not defend the basketball as they committed 15 turnovers.

It’s an ugly loss for Brooklyn, who admittedly tried fighting through a hazardous shooting night.

After winning three consecutive games to get back to .500, it’s another journey back there for Kenny Atkinson’s team.

The Brooklyn Nets will visit the Capital One Arena to take on the Washington Wizards on Friday night as they look to end their skid.

[SPORTS] NO DON’T DO EM’ LIKE THAT: ISSAC CLIMBS MOUNTAIN TO REJECT EMBIID

[SPORTS] NO DON’T DO EM’ LIKE THAT: ISSAC CLIMBS MOUNTAIN TO REJECT EMBIID

Embiid Gets A Taste Of His Own Medicine

It’s been a dominant beginning to the 2018-19 season for Joel Embiid, who has been unstoppable down low and near the rim.

The 76ers big man recorded his first career triple-double on Wednesday night vs. the Orlando Magic, but the highlight of the night wasn’t created by him, but rather a Florida State Alum.

Take a look.

Those are the type of plays the Orlando Magic believed they would be getting out of the versatile second-year forward Jonathan Issac, and while he’s got plenty of room for improvement, he won’t soon forget telling Joel Embiid to hit the weight room with this epic swat.

How impressive is this shot block by Joel Embiid? Leave your comments below!
