[Sports] Nolan Arenado Signs Huge Extension with Rockies

According to ESPN’s MLB Insider Jeff Passan, Nolan Arenado has signed a new eight-year contract that is worth $255 million, a record breaking contract for annual value.

The four time All-Star agreed to stay with Colorado this morning for the inevitable future. The contract is worth, on average, $32.5 million per year and has an opt-out clause that will allow Arenado to become a free agent when he turns 30. Last year, Arenado finished third in the MVP voting, hitting 38 home runs and driving in 118 runs.

Arenado is regarded as one of the best third-basemen in the MLB

Arenado was slated to be the top free agent next season with a ton of teams showing interest in him including the Yankees and Red Sox. This deal takes him off the market for the foreseeable, his new deal has a full-no trade clause keeping him as the face of the Rockies franchise.

MLB Network Insider Joel Sherman notes the nature of some of the record-breaking contracts handed out over the years. The Marlins, Padres, and Rockies have been the three teams to give players the top contracts in league history, a surprise to see considering the pay days big market teams give out constantly.

[Sports] The Knicks Have Finally Won a Home Basketball Game

[Sports] The Knicks Have Finally Won a Home Basketball Game

December 1, 2018. That was the last time the New York Knicks won a basketball game at Madison Square Garden– that is until last night, when they defeated the San Antonio Spurs 130-118.

The Knicks have had a rough season as they tank their way to the bottom of the standings and before last night, the team had lost a franchise-record 18 games in a row at home. The team was led by it’s young core with second year guard Damyean Dotson finishing with a team high 27 points and a career-high 8 three pointers. New Knicks’ guard Dennis Smith Jr. dished out 13 assists and nearly turned Davis Bertans into a poster with this monster dunk attempt.

The news of the win spread all the way to Los Angeles and even got a mention at last nights Oscars ceremony. Samuel L. Jackson and Brie Larson were presenting the awards for best adapted and original screenplay, when Jackson made an aside to inform Spike Lee of the Knicks triumphant win. Lee went on to win the award for best adapted screenplay marking two big wins for New York last night.

Other notes from the game last night include great play from both Knicks rookies, Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson. Knox had a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards. Robinson also contributed a double-double including five blocks and this nasty alley oop slam.

The Knicks currently hold the second worst record in the NBA as they set their sights on the draft lottery and the upcoming free agency window.

[Sports]Duke Star, Zion Williamson Injured Because His Shoe Literally Exploded

[Sports]Duke Star, Zion Williamson Injured Because His Shoe Literally Exploded

During last night’s rivalry showdown between Duke and North Carolina, star forward Zion Williamson injured his knee in one of the weirdest plays in recent basketball memory.

Thirty seconds into the game, Zion dribbled his way to the free throw line and planted hard on his left foot, resulting in his shoe to completely rip apart. Williamson went down and left the game with what is being called a mild knee sprain. Duke went on to lose the game 88-72, but the big takeaway from this game was the Nike shoes Williamson’s foot erupted through, as well as the current landscape of college basketball.

Watch the Williamson injury and shoe debacle here.

Williamson is projected to be the number one overall pick in this upcoming NBA draft and there is speculation from both current and former players that he should sit out the remainder of this college season. The NCAA has been criticized in the past for not paying it’s athletes despite the national spotlight they receive. There has been no indication that Williamson will consider sitting out, but he does risk the potential of losing out on professional money if he aggravates his knee injury.

Among other highlights from the game last night, former President Barack Obama was in attendance to watch the legendary Tobacco Road game. Unfortunately for him and the Cameron Crazies, they all missed out on seeing Zion leave his mark on such a historical rivalry.

[Sports] Manny Machado Signs Deal with Padres

[Sports] Manny Machado Signs Deal with Padres

Manny Machado has agreed to sign with the San Diego Padres to a record-breaking 10 years worth $300 million according to MLB.com Executive Reporter, Mark Feinsand.

After a long free agency where it looked like there would be no end in sight, Machado has come to terms with what will be the biggest free agent contract in the history of professional sports. The San Diego Padres add one of the top-flight free agents of the winter to their loaded prospect pool as they look to compete for the NL West crown this coming season. The contract details include a fifth year opt-out clause that Machado can exercise.

Machado signed a record-breaking deal Tuesday afternoon, reportedly worth $300 million

Machado’s market took a while to materialize after there were some questions about his work ethic and hustle during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Machado is the first big domino to fall during this free agency period, now players like Bryce Harper and Dallas Keuchel should be soon to sign. Spring Training is already here and teams that are in similar situations like the Padres should look to capitalize on landing top talent.

[SPORTS] TEAM LEBRON TAKES ALL STAR GAME

Sunday’s NBA All-Star game was highlight reel for fans and players alike.

The All-Star game was held in Charlotte, North Carolina, home of the Hornets, and Team LeBron took the win 178-164 against Team Giannis.

Kevin Durant won his second All-Star game MVP award as part of Team Lebron. He scored a team high 31 points in part of Team Lebron 20-point comeback over Team Giannis.

Teams were chosen in a draft format weeks prior to the All-Star game by team captains Lebron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who led All-Star fan voting for the Eastern and Western Conferences.

Of the notable plays from the game, Steph Curry initiated an alley-oop slam to Giannis with a 14-foot bounce pass that rocked all of Charlotte. Dwyane Wade and Lebron recreated their famous dunk from the Big 3 era that was also captured in a photo.

Overall, the NBA All-Star game was pretty lit. From the Skills Contest to the 3-Point Contest to the Dunk Contest to the All-Star game itself, the weekend for the NBA was a huge success on social media. Next year’s All-Star game will be played in Chicago and many are speculating that some of the teammates in this All-Star game will end up being teammates in the regular season.

Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt has signed with the Cleveland Browns on Monday.

Hunt, who was released by the Chiefs in December after a video had surfaced of him kicking a woman in a hotel, is arguably one of the best running backs in the league and he’s only going into his third year.

Hunt is still on the Commissioner Exempt List due to the ongoing investigation into what exactly happened in the video of the running back kicking the woman in the hotel. Hunt allegedly also punched a man last June. He has neither been charged nor arrested for either situation.

Hunt broke out in his first game two years ago against the New England Patriots and has kept that momentum and high caliber athleticism throughout his young career. I even had him on my fantasy team since he’s been in the league! While I like the pick up by the Browns because of how good Hunt is, but the truth about what happened in the video has yet to be reached. If he does get charged, then that’s the end of his career, or should be at least. If not, then the Browns could very easily win their division if Hunt and Mayfield continue their dominance on the field. The Browns are definitely a different team from what we saw two years ago.
