Song of the Day: Drew the Recluse’s “Fade”

Song of the Day: Drew the Recluse’s “Fade”

New Jersey’s Drew the Recluse fuses hip-hop, alternative, and R&B into one sound through his music, especially on his soulful track, “Fade.” Founder of record label Black Suburbia Music Group, Drew the Recluse and his team of artists have worked to unite the rock and hip-hop scenes in Asbury Park, creating more performance opportunities and a community for talent in the area. Based in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Drew the Recluse cites Bruce Springsteen as one of his musical influences, as well as his neighborhood in the suburbs of New Jersey.

In Drew the Recluse’s powerful single, “Fade,” he details his feelings of loneliness, pain, and feeling stagnant in his life and friendships. The synth-based ballad starts with his sultry vocals and piano chords playing underneath. He sings lyrics, “There’s a light left on but ain’t nobody there/I’d give all I have to know somebody cared.”

In the chorus, his vocals explode, as he belts, “Are my tears just not enough to heal the lies?/ Cause my suffering is worse than if I die!/So I hold my breath and pray I live the night/Cause to fade away would not be worth the ride.” The chorus repeats as the beat drops and synths swell, with Drew the Recluse’s emotional vocals concluding the song, “Cause to fade away would not be worth the ride.”

OnlyJahmez Reveals Visuals for His Latest Single, “Demons”

After releasing an 18-second preview of his “Demons” music video on YouTube, OnlyJahmez will drop the full music video and single on August 13th at midnight. In the song and music video, OnlyJahmez’s breakup with his girlfriend triggers conversations and reflections not only about his past and his future self, but about his career as well. As he opens up to his girlfriend about their dying love, his “demons,” and his career, rapping “I’m on track to reach the ceiling but for you I give it up.” OnlyJahmez admits to his girlfriend, “I been knocking out these demons” and in the second verse, he belts, “I can’t give you glory no more,” ultimately ending their romantic relationship. Throughout the music video, OnlyJahmez and his girlfriend have a conversation, and as she continuously walks away from him, she becomes a distant memory at the end of the music video.

OnlyJahmez’s “Demons” echoes the sentiments of his previous confessional anthem, “Thoughts,” a moody, uptempo track that garnered approval from New York City’s popular radio station, Hot 97.1, and even caught the attention of rapper Lil Uzi Vert, as he added the single to his personal Spotify playlist. OnlyJahmez’s “Thoughts” music video, directed and shot by videographer WaveChange in Las Vegas, debuted on television channels MTV, BET Jams, and Music Choice. In the past, OnlyJahmez’s projects have earned acknowledgement from MTV, Hot 97.1, Power105.1, BET, MajorStage, and caught the attention of the late rapper, Juice WRLD.

A New Jersey native, OnlyJahmez has launched his headlining tour throughout the TriState area, entitled “OnlyJahmez & Friends” and has performed four sold-out shows to launch the tour. OnlyJahmez will be performing singles from his upcoming EP, scheduled to be released in October 2021. Visit onlyjahmez.com for tickets and information about his upcoming shows.
